Forums - Sony - Buying a PSP - few questions.

So i was thinking about getting a next console like Xbox 360, but then i found out that my sister got a new quite able PC at home, so i decided to invest my money somwhere else, getting a handheld, that would be a first handheld since Gameboy i will have.

I'm a Nintendo fan since i can remember, but i've enjoyed playing on my cousins PSP, overall i had better experiences with the PSP than the DS (probably because of the media capabilities). I never been into handhelds that much so i have few questions.

- Games, my main focus will be RPG's and SRPG's, could anyone list me top 7 ( i like that number) PSP RPG's? And few SRPG's ? I know i could check metacritic, but i dont tend to trust reviews. Apart from that must games for me are: Tekken and GOW

- I've read that the new model PSP 3000 is coming out in October so i was thinking about waiting for the release of it, is it worth it?, is there going to be much difference? or should i get something now.

- I know PSP is out for a while now , so do you think there will be a PSP2 coming let say before the end of 2009?

And Overall do you recommend getting a PSP ( i know it's Sony Forum, but still i want honest opinions)

edit: one more question, do new movies still get released in UMD format?

Thanks for the feedback.

Granted, I'm a huge nintendo fan, but I'll give you my thoughts since you are one too.

My only concern is the incredibly bleak looking release list for the PSP. I know people say software doesn't sell much on the PSP, but I didn't realized how much this affected the PSP until I started managing releases in the US from now til 09. Go look at the release list (here on VGChartz it is mostly up to date for NA til 09) Granted there are good games, but it sends a message to me that the system is dieing.

As for the new model, if you wait, the 2000 will probably have a price cut, so you can make your decision then. Personally, I think i'd wait til the 3000 came out and then bought a 2000.

Also, you say your interested in RPGs and SRPGs, and I don't know much about the PSP, but if you go look at the DS upcoming games threads, they are littered with RPGs

Jeanne d'Arc, Disgaea and Final Fantasy Tactics are all great SRPGs

I recommend waiting for the PSP3000, the anti-glare screen looks as if it will be playable in direct sunlight.

I personally doubt that we will see the PSP2 before 2010.

A few game recommendations:
Crisis Core - If you enjoyed FF7
Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions - If you missed this on PS1
Jeanne D'Arc - I haven't played this yet, it's next on my list. Great reviews and I have some friends who really enjoyed it

The PSP 3000 might be worth waiting for as they will come with a 4 GB memory card (vs. the current PSP 2000 bundles that come with a 1 GB card).

Here are some details on the new PSP 3000 bundle:

Overall, I would recommend getting a PSP if there are enough games out there now that interest you. I held off from buying one until just recently because of lack of games that interested me. I did end up buying one a few months back and have been enjoying it since. I use it for both gaming and it's media capabilities.

As for the PSP2, I doubt we'll see it in 2009.

1)
- Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions
- Jeanne D'Arc
- Disgaea
- Final Fantasy II
- Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII
- Star Ocean: First Departure (comes out next month)
- Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth

2) The PSP-3000 has this anti-glare screen. If you're going to play out in the sun or in a lit room, then get the PSP-3000. The bundle has a 4GB memory stick and a code to download Everyday Shooter.

3) I don't see a PSP2 coming out in 2009. Maybe just another model.

4) If some games interest you and you're also going to use it's media capabilities, then yeah I recommend getting it. I found some games that I loved, and I used it as an mp3 player most of the time. One thing that sucks about the PSP is waiting for games to come out.

The battery life on the 3000 took a nasty hit, if you are going mobile with it a lot maybe wait until 3000 is released then buy a cheap 2000. If you're gonna play it indoors...buy a real console.

Is what I would do, though I will be honest and say I don't own a PSP or a DS.

Sony is claiming that the PSP 3000's battery life is equivalent to the PSP 2000's battery life.
http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/09/03/new-psp%e2%80%99s-battery-life-equivalent-to-current-psp/

Another source (can't remember where) said that the battery life is reduced by 20 mins or so.

The PSP3000 has a rumored battery life reduction of about 20 - 30 minutes. Considering that my PSP typically lasts 5 - 6 hours on a full charge I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I'd wait for psp3000. Battery could be upgraded without having to buy a new psp.

Thanks for the info, really appreciate it, i'm leaning towards PSP-3000 with some nice colour (i'll cosider 2000 only if it gets significantly cheaper with some good game).

I will be playing both outside and inside since i'm not taking my wii back to uniersity (my family would decapitate me) this and my mates PS2's (or 360) are going to be my main console, i dont play much while there, but sometimes when i get bored and sober up it's good to have something to play.

I've ordered Tekken: DR today, so there is no way back i think i will be a PSP owner in abouth a month. Is GTA: Liberty City Stories , any good?

And is Jeanne D'arc avaliable in PAL?

Wait for PSP-3000. Grab all of the game mentioned above.
