Forums - Microsoft - price cut, RRoD 2011 WHAT THE ?????

HELP me understand this, HELP me understand MS

the crazy price-cut in all three regions: imagine the amount of money they are going to lose on HW on all three models

the crazy RRoD: the problem is unfixable and anyone says "NO, THEY ARE FIXING IT" wake up! they have been in the market for more than 2 years and a half and it's still exist and they are losing MONEY because of RRoD

the crazy amount of 3ed part exclusive games : they have lots of that , companies are not doing this for free they are getting paid for that which also means HUGE AMOUNT OF MONEY

help me understand when they are going to be proftible when the new xbox is out on 2011??

what's the point of cutting prices and loses HUGE amount of money when u are sellling well and 5 million away from ur main competitor?

discuss -if u want :)-

I stopped playing my 360 because MS is losing money...

EB Games just announced that they've stopped selling 360 consoles in fear that MS might go bankrupt

Japanese developers are turning back money given to them to release 360 games and are only working on Wii titles

Should I go on??

Oh btw, You think Sony is making a profit? They're in so much crap that they can't secure any exclusives. You think they didn't buy FFXIII because of morals? come on, don't be so dense, they're broke!!

The Blu Ray deals + PS3 research + Cell Research + loss for every PS3 sold = F*&CKed

Billions spent and the PS3 will never recoup any of the cost.

RRoD is fixed with the new GPU. I have 6 x 360's... Two RRoD'd last December. My 360's have been more durable then my two PS3's dying twice. And my one and only Wii died once.

Microsoft's 360 is just as un/profitable as PS3 has been for Sony... If not better. Its funny that Sony selling blu-ray at a massive loss and cheaper then a stand alone blu-ray player doesn't phas people, but when Microsoft reduces cost (redsigned GPU) and passes that on it does...

Also, Microsoft took a $1.1 billion charge for RRoD in mid-2006, so it is already paid for. The last time I heard, Microsoft had used $800 million of the money to date. They still have $300 million to burn.

3rd party exclusives are part of the strategy to gain mind share in the market place. By noticing it, it is obviously working.

They like working really hard for third place :).

I'm kidding.

my question wasn't clear ,, i failed to deliver my point

i meant:

new xbox in 2011 while the 360 needs longer time than that to turn profits???????

@blackstar

Everyone is telling you the reason why MS does it. It's the exact same reason why Sony do what they do. To gain market share and thus hope to reap the benefit later.

You just do not want to see it because you are just another Sony troll in MS forum.

@Blackstar - I think a fair and honest discussion on your topic is hampered by some false assumptions in your op. Specifically:

1) The box is cheaper to make now then it was three years ago, and the price cut in all regions is pretty much in line with the PS2's pricing strategy (European price cuts are probably more aggressive). Simply meaning there is no evidence to suggest they are losing money, and historical evidence to suggest that they are not. Your assumption that they are losing money on hardware, is at best debatable, and not a firm positive on which to base a discussion.

2) The RROD issue was paid for, in a lump sum (6 quadrillion or whatever) out of last year's financials, and the heatsink issues have been addressed in all recent motherboard/processor iterations. They are still trying to make this money back of course, but your assumption that is has not been addressed, is well, false according to every source I've read. If you have hard evidence that current hardware still have this issue, please provide and I will, stand corrected.

3) How much exactly did MS pay for exclusives? Because, you know, access to 20 million players/possible buyers wouldn't entice ANY company, right? I'm not suggesting that MS hasn't spent any money securing titles, but I think again, that the assumption that the ONLY reason they get any developer support is because of vast sums of money is pretty ridiculous.

Given all this, I would guess that the financials for MS's entertainment division will be out of the red, long before 2011.

they can easily afforf to, they have lowered production costs. sony could do the same but they havnt lowered production costs as much.nintendo could easily cut price and still be profitable but why bother
