Forums - Gaming - Who on VGChartz owns the Logitech Z680's? Is it worth $115?

I need to know by saturday.... I'm on a limited budget, but i want speakers that can Do DPLII, DD, and DTS(in case that Hd console drops cheap enough so that i can afford it). Are the Z680's any good? Are they good enough for my bedroom? HELP! Because it's on craigslist, i can probably barter it. How much should i offer?

My friend has those, I don't know what he paid for them though.

Amazon doesn't give a price there, and I googled and couldn't find a price easily...I'm guessing they're usually above $200 though, so that's a good deal.

I have the G51 surround set, which costs $130 normally, I got a deal for $60, and they seem of similar quality to my friend's Z680, but I'm sure the Z680 set is better.

man i dont know about that model, but i have another speakers from logitech and man they have a pretty good sound quality you cant go wrong

well, according to some review sites, these things were a little less than $300 5yrs ago... Im not sure how much they are worth today. They keep saying PLII support, but i don't understand how im supposed to plug in the wii.

I don't know if it has the right connections in the back, but you could do like I did: get a splitter that plugs into the green jack in the back, and separates into 2 RCA plugs your Wii's audio can plug into.

The back? isn't that one of the pc inputs?

Well ya, so you'd have to unplug and replug the Wii and PC each time. It's not a good solution...I just do it whenever I record Wii games on my PC, so I can still hear the sound at least.

can't you just plug it in via the front aux port?

I have the Z-640. I wasn't expecting much when I bought them, but I was pleasantly surprised when I had it all hooked up. The bass is pretty bangen. Surround is nice too. I had it hooked up in a small bedroom.

you can get the z-640 for cheap

I found a manual online for it, it shows you how to hook up a console.

Video game consoles
Digital Connection (PlayStation® 2 or Xbox™ only)
For optimal sound, use an optical cable to connect the video game console to the optical jack on the
Digital SoundTouch™ Control Center. If you are connecting the Z-680 system to an Xbox™, you will also
need to purchase an adapter (the Xbox™ Advanced AV Pack or the Xbox™ High Definition AV Pack) to
make this connection.

Analog Connection (all consoles)
The Z-680 system is compatible with all video game consoles that use red and white RCA audio cables.
If you want to connect the Z-680 system to your video game console using an analog connection, you
will need to buy an adapter that connects the red and white audio cables from your console to the
green analog input jack on the Digital SoundTouch™ Control Center. With this type of connection, the
audio signal will be directed to the front left and right speakers only.

After reading that, I think it's kind of strange how you can only get sound form the front left and right speakers. I was looking at the Z-640s manual and it looks like you can get sound out of all the speakers.

If you have a video game console (PlayStation®, PlayStation®2, Xbox™, or
GameCube®):
• Connect the green and black plugs from the audio input cable to the 2 stereo
mini jacks on the included video game adapter. Connect the red and white RCA
audio cables from your video game console to the RCA audio jacks to the video
game adapter. To enable sound from the center channel speaker, depress the
Matrix button on the center speaker.

Thanks for bringing this up. I was thinking of how to get sound out of my dreamcast vga box to some speakers. I recently pulled my Dreamcast out and set it up in front of a VGA monitor, but didn't have any speakers to use. Forgot I had these speakers laying around.
