But why do you think that capital gains are a more worthy target of tax breaks (in the form of a lower rate) than people's actual income that they worked for?
[edit: And I'm not quite sure what you mean in your edit as it sounds to me like you're equating diversification with short-term investments. AFAIK they are not the same thing. If you want to argue for raising the long-term rate to equal the short-term rate, I would be open to your arguments, but that might punish people for inflation.]

@Final I don't. I think all taxes should be low. I am a limited gov't guy. You see when the gov't intervenes, and it often does to a bad outcome ($266 mil of returned stimulus checks due to bad addresses!), it screws up big time. I am all for the gov't doing basic services but I abhor mass intervention except in the case of say the US Patriot Act.

So you're against government interference, except when it's to take our freedoms away? An interesting position, I'm afraid I have to disagree with you there.
P.S. Just to doublecheck, you would agree with me that ideally capital gains would be taxed just like income but with an adjustment for inflation?

As long as the taxes are low and yes, adjustment is always needed to prevent bubbles and the like--you see how the housing market turned out with the help from the CRA, right...
