I am not sure I wanna see this cream-puff VP debate - it's being gimped because - gasp - VP hopeful Sarah 'She's hot but clueless' Heath-Palin isn't an expert debater. What is even funnier is - the Obama folks agreed to the gimped format.

Here's the graph: At the insistence of the McCain campaign, the Oct. 2 debate between Gov. Sarah Palin and her Democratic rival, Senator Joseph R. Biden Jr., will have shorter question-and-answer segments than those for the presidential nominees, the advisers said. There will also be much less opportunity for free-wheeling, direct exchanges between the running mates.

Here are the highlights:

McCain advisers said they had been concerned that a loose format could leave Ms. Palin, a relatively inexperienced debater, at a disadvantage and largely on the defensive.

The wrangling was chiefly between the McCain-Palin camp and the nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates, which is sponsoring the forums.

Commission members wanted a relaxed format that included time for unpredictable questioning and challenges between the two vice-presidential candidates. On Wednesday, the commission unanimously rejected a proposal sought by advisers to Ms. Palin and Senator John McCain of Arizona, the Republican presidential nominee, to have the moderator ask questions and the candidates answer, with no time for unfettered exchanges. Advisers to Mr. Biden say they were comfortable with either format.

Both campaigns see the four debates as pivotal moments in a presidential race that is not only extraordinarily close but also drawing intense interest from voters; roughly 40 million viewers watched the major speeches at the two parties’ conventions. The upheaval in the financial markets has recast the race in recent days, moreover, which both sides believe will only heighten attention for the debates.

A commission member said that the new agreement on the vice-presidential debate was reached late Saturday morning. It calls for shorter blocks of candidate statements and open discussion than at the presidential debates.

McCain advisers said they were only somewhat concerned about Ms. Palin’s debating skills compared with those of Mr. Biden, who has served six terms in the Senate, or about his chances of tripping her up. Instead, they say, they wanted Ms. Palin to have opportunities to present Mr. McCain’s positions, rather than spending time talking about her experience or playing defense.

While the debates between presidential nominees are traditionally the main events in the fall election season, the public interest in Ms. Palin has proved extraordinary, and a large audience is expected for her national debate debut.

Indeed, both the McCain and Obama campaigns have similar concerns about the vice-presidential matchup in St. Louis: that Ms. Palin, of Alaska, as a new player in national politics, or Mr. Biden, of Delaware, as a loquacious and gaffe-prone speaker, could commit a momentum-changing misstep in their debate.

Mad Skillz take: Folks can knock O on his lack of foreign leadership, but homie went around the world, greeted by massive crowds. He was being shown love by world leaders. And had the Dems asked for a pass, the GOP would have said 'Never ... deal with it.' With Palin, WTF? I guess she expects Putin to show her mercy.

No doubt - Country First - she's so ready to lead, and can't handle a real debate. Is anyone taking her seriously?!

Un-friggin-believable.

Biden just needs to get out of the debate w/out appearing sexist. With the negatives Palin has now I don't think the VP debates are going to be the turning point of the election. I think that's why the Obama campaign agreed to the gimped format.

That's my initial thought as well when I started reading this article. Well, I guess it is up to all those McCain voters to realize they possibly leave their country in the completely incapable hands of Palin with their vote, but considering they did the same things twice in a row with Bush I guess they don't give a shit.

Btw, looking at the electoral map I can't help but wonder why the US is even 1 country. It is obvious that politically the country is completely divided between the central red part of the country and the blue coastal areas.

I would be severely worried if Palin was president. I think she would make our country look even dumber abroad.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

Has Palin even been saying anything recently? They try to hide her from cameras these days, except for when she repeats her RNC speech on the campaign trail, including all the debunked lies, like "Obama is going to raise all your taxes." It's getting pretty bad. They're just hiding her and avoiding the ethics investigation, letting her pop out to say hello for the gimped debate, and hiding her again. She rallied the base like she needed to, and now any airtime for her is bad news for McCain. To quote one fast food chain, "I'm lovin' it."

Agreed. One of my friends, a small govt and typically moderate social conservative is now heavily leaning twords Obama. He thought Palin is a horrible choice, thinks she lied about the bridge to nowhere and believes her comments that she led the national guard is FP experiance is laughable at best. My other friend, an actuary for life a life insurance firm, has decided he can't vote for McCain or Obama. He also does not like that he lives in Kansas over Missouri now :p

With toss ups it is EXTREMELY close.  Also you should use Rasmussen for accuracy and no bias.

Which ones are you considering toss-ups? Why do you think Rasmussen is more accurate? Do you have some data on their track record during the primaries?

That map takes an average of many polls, including rasmussen. So, it is taken into account.
