Heh, interesting little article that shows how disgusted American's are with our own politicians.

Source: http://www.mediachannel.org/wordpress/2008/09/12/media-tenor-the-economy-shifting-perceptions-changing-advantages/

New York, September 12, 2008: While the outlook continues to be less negative, economic news increased its share of coverage in the media so far this month, helping to maintain it as a major issue in this election cycle.

“The economy is continuing to receive coverage that’s less negative, even while there are many critical economic issues still in play,” says Roland Schatz, President of Media Tenor International. “Right now, Obama has the advantage on this issue. McCain, however, does better when the news is more positive; we can see this in his reception on Fox News, which has been considerably more upbeat on the economy overall. If the current trend in economic news continues, this may create an advantage for McCain.”

Meanwhile, according to Media Tenor’s data, neither candidate is receiving significant positive coverage on key issues.

“When one of the candidates has an advantage, it’s generally because his opponent is rated so negatively,” notes Schatz. “On the economy, Obama has some favorable coverage, but he has had edge because McCain has received so much negative coverage. We can see the same pattern in tax issues and healthcare. This implies that many Americans may wind up voting against a candidate, instead of for one.”

Now that both party’s political conventions are over, the question is which candidate will sustain their momentum. “This weeks media coverage will keep McCain in the lead as he was presented in a better light than Obama overall.” Schatz says. “Obama, meanwhile, has to be careful that this horse-race driven election coverage doesn’t turn into a self-fulfilling prophecy.”

Edit: As an aside that's a great website to check on regularly, it really puts the media in context. It reports on the reports showing what the media is focusing on and the effect it's having on the viewers. Very interesting stuff.

That article goes directly against a few i've seen where McCain and Obama as a whole have the highest positve rankings of presidental candidates in a long long time.

But he's still better than the alternative. All politicians are liars; some of them have bad ideas too. When you get a choice of two lying, manipulating, corrupt candidates, pick the one who at least claims to have policies you agree with.

If you agree in principle with what Bush was doing, then vote Republican. If not, then vote Democrat. It's very simple - both outcomes will be bad, but one has a slight chance of being better. Even if McCain is anti-Bush (I doubt it), his presidency will strengthen the Republican Party - who ARE following Bush's ideaology.

Actually supporting Obama supports the Bush Republicans.

The President is the head of the party.  If McCain wins the moderate republicans will win out and get a lot more influence and take control of the party... returning more to the days of people like Roosevelt.

If he loses.  The Bush republicans can say "See moderates can't win" then the next presidential candidate will be some super conservative, right wing christian governor.

I think you're entirely wrong because the only thing McCain has proven is that he is willing to sell out his image to the right wing religious vote because apparently he thinks he can't win any other way (hey, it cost him in 2000 remember).

I will never vote Republican again until they have thoroughly divorced themselves from the religious crazies.  If he loses, I think a lot of moderates will point it out and say "See?  Selling out to the religious right wing won't win the Republicans any more elections".  I hope it will force the Republican party to finally get back to their real, core values.

Picking Palin instead of the VP he *genuinely* wanted was the final nail in the sellout.  He was informed he couldn't pick Lieberman because of the religious right, and then made, as Karl Rove might say, "an intensely polital choice".  The year 2000 McCain was the Republican party's chance to shy away from the encroaching Religious Right block.  2008 McCain is just another selout :(

Barack Hussein Obama?

Oh, for fuck's sake. If that isn't the most feeble attempt at fear-mongering, I don't know what is.

Good god, he couldn't be a good president. He has a furrin soundin name. Let's not focus on issues, instead we'll just pander to xenophobes and racists.

This is what we call "pleasing the base."

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

4. McCain Campaign Add Acuses Obama of supporting Sex-Ed for Kinderergarden. Obama says they are lying through their teeth.

The Truth- Obama is lying through his teeth about NOT supporting it. I have seen the bill which he pushed through the Illinios State senate which specifically calls for Sex-ed for Kindergarden. Also, I heard a clip of him saying sex-ed for kindergarden was "the right thing to do". Talking about the pot calling the kettle black.

Obama is tarnishing his Image as the "Different" politician every time he opens his mouth. He is now calling McCain sleazy, and dishonest. I have gone from liking him as a person to almost detesting him. From the comparisons to Jesus (comunity organizer) to crying like a 8 year old to his momma when people are picking on him.  He makes me sick.

Your post really wasn't worth responding to.  You are an unapologetic and ill-informed troll, and I will enjoy licking up your salty, bitter tears at the end of this election cycle.

Here's a little video maybe you should watch about Obama's "sex ed for kindergartners" - http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0908/Planned_Parenthood_defends_Obama_attacks_McCain.html?showall  And here's another great video you should watch - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hYQAv2HnuCQ  - McCain's strategist gets shut down completely on this issue.  It's hysterical.  I really hope this is one of the things that really ends up backfiring on McCain as the media starts to decide the lies are not worth the horse-race reporting.

McCain is officially running the sleaziest, most lie-filled, distorted and disgusting campaign I've ever seen.  Every time Obama talks about McCain in a speech, he calls him a great american, or a hero, or an honorable man.... I wish he'd grow a pair and call his ass out for running a campaign dirtier than Karl Rove's.

This is exactly what I hate about Obama. He talks about change and how McCain uses the same old politics but yet he is using the same old politics too.

Hypocrisy is a huge pet peeve for me. However I still think he is what the Country needs more than McCain.

Seems we are on the same page. I do not think McCain is the best choice for Pres... But it looks like there is no alternative.

Are you guys for real?  I think Obama needs to get even more nasty if he wants to win.  The republicans have run some of the most disgraceful campaigns under Karl Rove and now McCain is following the same path.

Negative campaigns only exist because they work.  This is extremely sad and pathetic, but people keep falling for it.

Wow. You just ripped a line straight from Obama's henchman http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/09/14/campaign.wrap/index.html

Again- Where are you Montana? He just made a personal attack against me. Ande I now you don't like that one bit. Where are you now? You are always there to swoop in when I say left wing nut job... But what about religious crazies?

Also, again sir Sansui you misunderstand me. I will not cry if McCain loses. I will accept Obama. I will not dowhat the Left wing did to Bush and never give him a chance. Now, please that was some really sad smack talk... Also why does everyone start with- "This is not worth responding to" then end up writing 20 sentances. It seems like a sad attempt to diss me.  Be creative sir Sansue Montana used it first in this thread, or was it Vagabond? Oh well.

ps- from the way it sounds you are the one emotionally connected to your canidate of choice. Just an observation.
