Forums - Sony - ps3 red light flashing?

Definitely overheating. When I was talking to a Sony guy about it on the phone after my PS3 broke, as soon as I said that, he immediately knew it was over....

I assume the screen goes weird coloured when it stops working. I would advise doing what you can to copy off your data. If you send it to Sony, it is likely they will have some refurbished older consoles for you, assuming it is in guarantee

I really hope I can get a 60gb back. I'll just reinstall my 320 gb harddrive in the new system but it looks like my saves would be gone. It looks like I'll be losing my third place rank in the soul calibur special vs mode as well thanks to having to wait for 2 weeks. My disc is also stuck in the system. I hope sony sends it back.

Does anyone know if the friend's list is attached to the account or stored in the system flash drive?

Friends list is attached to the account

Can you not turn it on for even a minute? I would use that time to copy off the most important saves first

It's overheating and may quit entirely., I had same problem with my 60GB in UK. I called Sony and to my surprise they had a new 60GB on my door three days later (it would have been two days but I had to get them to delay another day before I would be around to swap.

I'd suggest that if you are in warranty call Sony before you're out of it. If you're out of warranty call Sony and state you thought only 360's failed like this (sorry 360 owners, its nothing personal). A friend of mine really grumbled using that story when out of warranty and they eventually agreed to swap for zero cost even though he was out of warranty.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Nope it doesn't come on period now. I have backed up my data about a month ago when I switched hd's and the new data is still on my usb hd but would I be able to back up this same data into a new ps3?

Wow, lots of these coming up lately.

you say its overheating, but i left mine alone for 2 days cause i thought it would be overheating, and it still happened afterwards, so it can't be that.

i can't play mine for more than 5 minutes now without it turning off!!!

This happened to me a long time ago. You should make sure you transfer your saves to a usb in the 5 mins it stays on!

If you have a 60gb, the good news is that sony will send you the same model back. the bad news is that you'll hacve to pay $150 if it's out of warranty

Is it just this site or do PS3s have a time delay before they break or something. Ive seen nearly as many PS3 broken threads as I have RRoD threads.

I have no need to worry though, my PS3 will never break I tell you

oops, didn't see this thread...this seems to be happening a lot, huh?  I googled fixes for hard drives and that other thread came up...

anyway, so if I send my 60gb back I'll get the same model but not my hard drive, right?  I'm pretty sure I lost all of my data...
