If MGS4 didn't save the PS3, FFXIII and GT5 will do little more to help the matter. Any console that relies solely on games to save itself is setting itself up for trouble.

Last gen, the PS2 had everything, this generation the 360 has Tales of vesperia and Star Ocrean, the Wii has Two new Tales of games and Monster Hunter 3 an the PS3 only has MGS4 and FFXIII. With Final Fantasy fast dropping in quality and the PS3 as its own greatest deturant to support the Sony brand, this is a combination that could potentially be disasterous for both Sony and FF franchise. Even FFXII only sold 5 million units world wide and with FFXIII continuing down this downhill trend of the series. Square-Enix does not have the talent to make another FFX or another FF7. Let's pray to god FFXIII isn't released on the 360 in Japan too (rumors abound) or else there goes your last dream.

And look at the PSP now, even it couldn't pull off its upward trend forever, the superior handheld inevitably took back its crown. Even if against all odds the PS3 managed to pull a PSP how long do you really think it could last?

You Sony fans are relying on too few games for too much of an impact. This is not a succesful plan of ambition, this is a way of thinking that has time and time again shot you in the foot repeatedly.

how about versus, white knight chronicles(a LEVEL 5 RPG), gran turismo 5 and little big planet?

yes ds is selling alot, but after dragon quest remade it was known it was going to.

final fantasy xii was not a nomura game, FF7 ff8 ff10 all sold over 7 millions,ff12 its one of the weakness ff, same as ff9 it went to traditional and it have lowest sales, but then ffx came back to the normal over 7 million.

still sold 2.42m in japan alone.

the talent is still there nomura, actually ff13 + versus together will likely be over 10 million together.

almost half of the sales are from japan, in japan only dragon quest and pokemon sell the amount FF does,

even crisis core sold more 700k there, in system with high piracy.

Really though PS3 is gonna take 2nd place worldwide by the end of this gen so either way it wont matter if it "pulls a psp"

thats a online game that also was available for download, didn't include the traditional FF story gameplay and is charged monthly to play.

and its still played by 500k people worlwide.

Lots of games mentioned there that will "save" the ps3 in Japan. Realistically we all know none of them will. Deep down even the sony fanboys even know that's the case. There will be a few small spikes, maybe a bigger one for FF13. I doubt there will be a pricecut before 2010. How much money do you really want Sony to lose? They have already stated they can't afford a price cut for a while!

It's not likely but it's still within the realms of possibility. SCEJ has been quiet for the longest time...they just might have a trick up their sleeves.

Oh, I'm not agreeing with the "wait 'til X game comes out" crowd, just saying that an Xmas 2009 price drop (for instance) is totally within reason and fits the "not for a while" statement.  Consoles DO get cheaper over time you know.  And I'm not even saying it'll necessarily be another $100 cut.  Do you really think Sony couldn't handle dropping the price by $50 over a year from now?

Not even sure if they can afford a price cut by 2010. It is only just becoming apparent just how expensive the ps3 is to produce. Sony said it isn't going to be profitable until 2012 i think. Depends if they are willing to take a risk.

1.  Didn't the $600 price tag tip you off?  And the rumors that it cost over $800 to produce at first?  Sony has been working on hardware revisions to save cost since day one, and without being distracted by any catastrophic hardware failures wink wink. 

2.  I'll believe THAT when you give me a source -- or it might be they claimed the PS3 will have turned a profit OVERALL by then.  Which I doubt.
