Forums - Nintendo - Wii and DS games having the worst storylines?

my advice: go play some DS RPGs

they have pretty good stories..most of them

as for the rest: do they NEED stories?

I don't need a good story to enjoy platformers..or puzzle games..not really

the few games that DEMAND a good story are games that lack gameplay..most of the time

in this case RPGs

with KH and Tales being an exception..

asI'm planning on getting 358/2 days in JP (better voices..all gameplay for me...gonna get some translation later)

and Tales of Innocence..wich I've been playing recently..don't understand SHIT (totally JP)

but the gameplay is so good..especially multiplayer..

more RPGs should learn from KH(not II..it was oo much hack and slash) and Tales

KH series has some of the best English VA I have ever heard in a JRPG. For all we know, the Japanese VA in the series could be only decent at best since you need to know Japanese to determine the quality of Japanese VA.

Also, RPGs demend story because they are more often than not like 30+ hours long.  Do we want just gameplay the whole time? No.  That would be kind of boring.  We need story to give us some motivation to finish these RPGs.

VGChartz has a better story than MGS.

I like you and all but I can't take that comment seriously since you consider ToS's story to be amazing despite the fact that most consider it generic and cliched.  Also, there is the bias you have for JRPGs

Why would you take THAT comment seriously? lulz.

ToS is cliche but so is every other RPG on the planet (except like...Inazuma and TWEWY) -_- Cliche doesn't stop a game from having a good story.

You like FF X's story right? FF is filled with cliche so how can you say FF X has a good story but then tell me you can't take me seriously because ToS is cliched when FF X is also cliched?

Funny you say that, when I first played ToS, from the very beginning I thought "LOL FFX" (with their crew going around and Colette being the new Yuna).  Of course, I still thought both of their stories were great (ToS turned into its own thing), so...

FFX has it's cliches(all JRPGs do) but they are less noticeable than the cliches used in ToS since FFX's story was told slightly differently than typical JRPGs(don't tell me that fact that you were learning about Spira just as Tidus was wasn't unique).  I am in no way condemning ToS's story since I never played it.

ToS actually has a kinda similar story to FF X. People like to compare ToS to FF X every once in a while. If ToS is uber cliche then so is FF X.

ToS and FFX's stories have their similarities but they also have their differences. I am not saying you can or cannot think ToS's story is good. That would be like saying that I can't like Star Ocean 3's story(For SO3 haters: Yes, I liked SO3's story)

I have never played a game with a stoy as good as a book thats why I read more than I play. Still most games have shit stor very few are flowing sensible and in depth.

oh trust me..I understand quite a bit of JP but mostly talking..not writing..still learning that

and hell YES the voices ROCK in JP from KH (watched pretty much ALL Re:CoM cutscenes)

as for your comment..you don't get it if the game has amazing gameplay AND a good story..it's the best

if the gameplay sucks..and has a good story it's okay..good gameplay..bad story it's..okay

a great RPG has gameplay that keeps you coming for more AND a good story

that's why I'm getting it in JP the gameplay in KH is more important to me than story, I'll read the translations for the parts I don't understand comepletely

I won't mind ^^' but if the gameplay sucked..the Story just drags you through the game *looks at FFIV advance*

good.. i'd like them to keep it that way.. because the only game i've played where the story was amazing but didn't affect the quality of the game itself in the slightest was half life 2.. and since i've played afair share of games.. i'd say its a good thing story isn't such a big focus.. for my tastes anyways

If you ask me, I find Sonic games to have far too complex plots than is needed these days. I'm looking at you, Sonic 2006!

I was gonna post something inteligent until a read a bunch of the posts here and saw some really dumb arguments ^(sp intended).

So yeah.

I'll just say that as far as intense and long story goes, I would have a hard time imagining that plays well on the Wii, given the whole motion and moving around bit. I mean the consoles design caters to the whole party game atmosphere thing, not that it can be done, but I'm sure from a business model standpoint, devolopers will focus more on the interaction rather than an epic story. Also I'm not sure how many games percentage wise really are that deep. I mean companies hiring writers is kinda new relativly speaking. If you were to go over the list of ALL games on ALL platforms I'm sure 1 - 2% of videogames have deep stories. So yeah. I guess thats it.
