Full global sales reports planned

GFK-ChartTrack keen to expand partnership with NPD and Enterbrain

Frustrated global sales analysts, rejoice; the leading charts authorities in the world are close to agreeing a new monthly report that will offer definitive sales data for ‘the whole planet’.

The news comes after GFK-ChartTrack, NPD and Enterbrain launched the Top Global Markets Report last month – bringing together monthly sales data for the UK, Japan and US.

And the new goal for all three companies is to bring in other ‘periphery’ territories into the mix – including wider European, Asian and South American territories.

The new project would give subscribing publishers a one-stop source of sales information for every significant territory in the world, including the emerging markets.

“The aim from all of us – GFK-ChartTrack, NPD and Enterbrain – is to produce a definitive report for the whole planet,” GFK-ChartTrack business group director Dorian Bloch told MCV.

“We’re discussing it now. We’re looking at South America, Asia and other European countries than the UK. All of the companies that are involved are very keen to put something together that covers these areas.”

GFK-ChartTrack launched two new monthly reports at the Games Convention in Leipzig last month.

As well as The Top Global Markets Report, the firm teamed up with MediaControl-GFK for a full European sales document, which covers up to 19 countries including the UK, Ireland, France, Spain, Italy and Benelux.

“We have over ten years experience with Ireland and the UK, so it made perfect sense for us and MediaControl-GFK to team up,” added Bloch.

“It is of benefit both to publishers concentrating on Europe – and US mega-publishers that want to learn about trends in the territory. It’s something everyone can benefit from.”

Pathetic attempt to compete with VGchartz. The coalition of some cowards only creates a bigger coward.

Pretty big news. Incidentally, the first "Top Global Markets Report" for the month of August should be releasing any day now, but I don't know if any data will be made public. There's a partially censored sample with July data here (PDF).

Looks like they want to compete with VGC!

Very good thing. That is, there's no mention of a public report of these charts. But that can always come later.

I might be wrong... but it looks to me like GTAIV total number is 3,794,873

which confuses me as it is obviously not a global figure.... even taking into account that it says April 2008... the game sold way more than that in it's first 2 days (both in April)

That one is US/UK/Japan only. And it isn't out in Japan yet.

This could be interesting, but if it's anything like their last plan you have to subscribe to all the services individually anyway, plus pay an additional fee, which means all you're really getting is all the same reports in one document.

This never would have happened if vgchartz didn't exist. Go team!

this may mark the death of vgc
