Forums - General - Who is in Ike's way?

Houston is right in the middle of this path. And I live southwest of town. Still no one I know is evacuating.

Anyone here that lives in this path?

Oh i'd say the black knight is.

I am slightly in the way, but we should be alright. I am in Waco, about the middle of Texas slightly to the right.  We will probably get a shitload of rain.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Waco? I see. I was wondering is there really another Baylor...I used to live in Waco. Just found it interesting.Anyways, I used to live in Austin and we never got hit. However, this may prove my theory wrong.

Yeah...I am going to tough it out. I am in an apartment, on the bottom floor, so I think I should be alright. I will try to stay away from my windows if things look like they are gonna get bad though.

Floods? I remember sometime ago New Mexico area flooding cause of some hurricane.

Exception of Tornadoes, 1st floor isn't so great. Besides, for Tornadoes your best off in a basement.

Misleading title. I came in here to see some epic drawings of Ike destroying the Black Knight....

I live in Florida so I'm just glad we haven't been hit in the last few years. No one on the gulf coast gets any sympathies from me.

I suppose you're not near the coast? It seems Ike will create huge storm surge.

Good thing he fights for his friends, huh? =P

http://edition.cnn.com/2008/US/weather/09/12/hurricane.ike.texas/

"Most of the area will be uninhabitable for weeks ... if not longer," an advisory issued at the time said. "The vast majority of native trees will be snapped or uprooted. Only the heartiest will remain standing."

"All neighborhoods ... and possibly entire coastal communities ... will be inundated during the period of peak storm tide," the advisory said. "Persons not heeding evacuation orders in single-family one- or two-story homes will face certain death."

(...)

"If you think you want to ride something out, and people are talking about a 20-foot wall of water coming at you, then you better think again," White said.

If you're near the coast, get the hell out of there. Don't forget long lasting food, water and cash (credit cards don't work when the power is down).
