Sony doesnt need to drop price unless the 360 price cut get a big boost and it lasts. in USA M$ might last but no were esle.. see "others" sales and you will see why Sony is not to worried.

While I do agree with you that there likely won't be a price cut this year, I'd have to argue with your reasoning.

Top Sony exec's wouldn't 'spill the beans' if you will at this point in time if a price cut was planned.  If they plan to price cut 2 months from now, they wouldn't want the word out now.  You should know that you can't trust what anyone in the industry says in terms of marketing strategy..

I think if MS pricecut has long legs in terms of sale then Sony will drop the price before christmas but if MS price cut only boosts it for a shor period of time then I don´t think they will cut the price this year.

I think that a $299.99 version isn't that far off. Maybe they could bring out a 20 gig version for the holidays at that price. Imagine if they brought out a $249.99 version for the holidays. That might really shake things up.



My most anticipated games:  Whatever Hideo Kojima is going to do next, Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Gran Turismo 5, Alan Wake, Wii Sports Resort.  Cave Story Wiiware.

Sony won't cut the price this year.
People here act like fanboys who only care about who sell more between PS3 and 360 but Sony is a company and they have different objectives.
The goal this year is to sell a lot more consoles than they did last year while keeping the same price AND making a lot of profits, it they get that then it's a great success.
If they continue to lose lots of money, thus making PS3 an unprofitable business with no possibility of recouping investements over the long term just to outsell a competitor then that's a big failure and poor thinking.

By the way Sony has in store great bundles with the 80GB + a top first party game (Little Big Planet, Motorstom or Resistance 2) at 399$ so you get a BIG NEW game for free which for consumers is equal to a 50$ price cut. Those bundles are already confirmed by european retailers. For the US they could even add vouchers to buy stuff on the PSN on top of that.

Next year, with the profitability fixed they'll think about market share and they will cut the price to 299$.

they can make a useless sku to fool people, like 250 for a ps3 with a 40gb hdd, 1 usb port, and no wifi. its kinda of like the....
