I think none of you actually read my piece since you all reasponded within a minute, and i know it takes more than a minute to read.

In serious debate, the wii is more of a toy than it's counterparts. The 360 and ps3 have been working on bringing almost an unrealistic pursuit of "art" in games, whereas the nintedo has been working on having a fun time, not that fun isn't a great thing....

You want a serious debate? Fine. For your OP, you never once explained how the Wii is a toy. All you did was explain how it branches into new demographics. What you should have done is explain how branching into those demographics makes it a toy, which you never did.

As for your reply, if you want to not be laughed at for that second paragraph, try and explain how 360 and PS3 are working on bringing almost an unrealistic pursuit of "art" in games. What does that even mean?

what i mean is that game companies try and make some crazy realistic stuff that in the end is a gamble seeing as how they've spent 15-20 million dollars on production. In this sense, they are moving away from the "toy" aspect of gaming, and nintendo is actively pursuing the toy demographic with cheap fun easy to play games.

So the "toy" aspect of gaming means unrealistic? Ok so we can conclude that Ratchet and Clank is a toy and Godfather: Blackhand Edition for the Wii is moving away from that into "art". Your problem is that you are saying the hardware is a toy by comparing the differences in software. It doesn't work that way. 360 and PS3 games aren't any more realistic than Wii ones in theory, it's just more processing power.

The problem with your argument is that it is not about the consoles themselves, but is on the shoulders of the developers. Putting games like Resident Evil 4 in a toy category is like giving your toddler a hunting knife to play with. The graphical processing power of a console do not dictate the games it will have. What if the PS3 or XB360 specialized in kids games based off of popular tv shows? What demographic would it have? Would it still be considered a machine of art?

The point is simple, all of the consoles are designed for the purpose of entertainment. Entertainment is a means of having fun. So if it is toys that are fun, then consoles are toys, each and every one. Videogames were always designed as entertainment, not a tech demo of how pretty a game can be (and suffer in gameplay).

i think it very well surmises the pretenses.
the wii is a toy
the games are simpler
it doesn't cater to the hardcore
that isn't a bad thing
it is not smarter than sony or ms

that is pretty much the whole point

Yes the Wii is more of a toy then the other two and that is why it´s succeding since all consoles are supposed to be toys but the PS3 and the 360 fail in that department.

Making toys that appeal solely to adolescents and adults is asking to fail.  The hardcore market is a very enduring and lucrative market but if appeal to only those individuals, It's likely they'll show up in lesser numbers over time.  If you don't expand, you're bound to contract.

Pixel Art can be fun.

yes they are all toys,
but then again there is a difference between mtv awards and oscars although they both award movies.

Bad example. You're obviously comparing the 360 and PS3 to the Oscars to back your "art" argument, and the Wii as the MTV Movie Awards to support your "fun" argument. It breaks down though when you realize it makes your demographic argument fall apart. More people watch the Oscars than the MTV Movie Awards.

If you can admit that the Playstation 3 and the Xbox 360 are toys as well, I'll, for the most part, agree with you.

Pixel Art can be fun.

I guess you need to justify the waste of money for your movie player.

The funny thing is I don't see you guys proving him wrong, but attacking him instead. Yes, he should know better to come here to say such hurtful things against your beloved wii, but he isnt lying. He should have mentioned that all consoles are toys, but my question is:

Why being called a toy insulting? I love toys. They are fun.

I don't care about the "high pursuit of art" in games, I just want to have fun. I have owned every Nintendo, sony and Microsoft console. I have the most fun with the Wii, I like the immersiveness of it. So your arguement fails.

Another poster said Sony & MS were serious business & Nintendo was a plaything...... look at the financials and you will see the only console that is "serious business" is the Wii.

What makes a console a toy? According to Wikipedia, a vibrator is a toy. It is a device someone plays with to have fun. Which disproves:

All 3 consoles are devices someone plays with to have fun. So all 3 consoles are toys. Makes you realize why Sony had to bring back rumble to the PS3.......

BAM! There it is!

Wii Code 3456 7941 4060 2924
COD MW Reflex 541192229709

that is the problem, that i am addressing sir.

even if one console were to cater solely to the hardcore market, it does not make them any "dumber" than Nintendo.
