Forums - Sony - Sony E3 2007 conference thread

New games announced: Echochrome and Infamous

Timed exclusivity announcement: UT3 (possibly complete exclusivity, wasn't totally clear)

New footage: MGS4 (great footage)
Killzone 2 (SPECTACULAR footage)

Other announcements: PSP redesign (and good bundles)
PSP to TV connectivity
Phone to Home connectivity
Web to Home connectivity
Larger Home environments than just the old lobby we had seen.

Stuff I wanted to see: More about a video download service.
More about updated PS3 firmware.
More new games - but at least they had some unlike MS who was touting their third party multi-plats.

I give it a B+/A-

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

The idea that E3 is gonna get people to buy more PS3s right now is false. But the games coming will sell more consoles along with the cut when they hit.

The problem is that every console has his own great games.

Sony's games look beautiful... pitty they'll be on a console that isn't selling... If only graphics mattered more than gameplay the PS3 would dominate this generation.

Man when did you get to play Killzone and MGS 4 and all those other games? I envy you that you already know the gameplay of all the games....lol

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

IMO Killzone was by far the most impressive game at E3. This game will make PS3 owners proud! Home also looked great!

Metal Gear Solid, Assassin's Creed, Haze and UT3 looked like promising 3rd party titles.

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

PS3 vs 360 sales

My take - B+/A-

Sony will be fine in the West. Sony will take alot of the customers 360 is going after when the price drops. I was curious to see if Sony would have anything to try to get some more support from Japanese gamers/casual gamers to justify the price..no dice (granted this is an American centric event now, not a worldwide event)

A true price drop would have helped alot this year (remember most consumers don't care about the added value - $499/$599 is the same as last year). Because of that, I see Nintendo and Microsoft trouncing Sony in 2007.

In terms of appealing to the three markets (and how I expect sales to be through the holidays):

Console Japan Americas Others

Wii A B+ B

PS3 D+ B- C+

Xbox 360 D- A- B-

Good analysis, though I think the Wii should have an A- to an A in America.  Wii Fit will be HUGE here.

ooh while the Sony fans are all high on hype - can I get any famous quotes for how much PS3 sales will increase because of all the people who saw E3? kwaad you wanna predict 300,000 for july now? please? :P

Oh, yes, please! Sony fanboys, I command you to predict a sales number for July!

500,000?

800,000?

The one who shoots higher will be the best Sony fan! And remember, anything less than 300,000 means that even with everything they showed, you accept that Nintendo still wins! And that can't be, can it?

So, predict! NOW! :D

Presentation was awful on Sony's part. Lots of games that have already been seen. Two new things that anyone cares about, UT timed exclusive, and new exclusives. Kwaad is an idiot again no surprises there. Yes they won E3, but only because I am not gonna dock them to harshly for that god awful performance. Home looks like a piece of shit, and I still haven't seen one thing which it offers to someone that doesn't have a computer. The graphics over the live stream sucked so I couldn't really tell on how well the Killzone video compared to the infamous trailer.

Does anyone else feel the need to beat up Phil, Kaz, and Jack and take their lunch money or is it just me.

 Nice bashing there.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

it's going to be a very big holiday season, that's for sure.

Now I gotta go re view the rest of the Nintendo conference did I miss much other than Mario Kart?

The beginning of the WiiFit segment made me want to put my head in an oven, if that's what you mean.

I think we can all agree that the shift has moved away from E3 a bit. I think MS took it to showcase their already-released games to save their new stuff for X07. Nintendo did much of the same with a small dose of Mario Kart and more casual gaming attacks with WiiFit and the like.

Sony was the only one who appeared to take more of a traditional approach to E3 with a price drop, a new PSP, and a few new games. Of course, Sony also needed a good conference much more than Nintendo and they don't have X07 to fall back on like Microsoft. So, it shouldn't surprise anyone that Sony had the best show. They have the most 2008 content they need to start pimping to get people interested in the console long-term.

Overall, the show was a disappointment. The only thing in the entire show that had my interest for more than three minutes is the PSP Slim. I might consider getting one now.

Game trailers just don't do much for me. Infamous was cool, as was MGS4. But with so many great games coming in the next few months, I have a hard time getting too riled up for anything in 2008.
