Forums - General - Dan Brown's Novels

Have you read Dan Brown's novels?  What do you think of them?  What about the controversial ideas and theories that they are based on and / or promote?

My most anticipated games:  Whatever Hideo Kojima is going to do next, Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Gran Turismo 5, Alan Wake, Wii Sports Resort.  Cave Story Wiiware.

The Da Vinci Code was awful. Anyone who disagrees has never read a real action novel.

Angels and Demons is almost exactly the same, and yes, i know its a prequel.

Digital Fortress was comical, especially the end with the firewall section

Deception Point however, was quality. Exciting, believable, a great heroine...i loved it.

Dan Brown isnt fit to lick the boots of Michael Crichton tho

Never heard of the Da Vinci Code.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

The Da Vinci Code puts forth the idea that Jesus was married to Mary Magdalain and that their bloodline became the royal families of Europe much as does the earlier book by Henry Lincoln, Michael Baigent and Richard Leigh Holy Blood, Holy Grail.

It was also a pile of trash. Rubbish characterisation, the characters took ages to work out the most simple of clues, its a direct copy of Angels and Demons and people only praise it because of the controversial storyline.

The book is like one big religious education lesson, and it bored the pants off me.

I have nothing but disrespect for Dan Brown the author. I mean you pretty much fail as an action writer, if every chapter ends with either "and suddenly it hit him like lightning" or "he couldnt believe what he saw in front of him"
The global phenomenon that was The Da Vinci Code, really baffled me. It was just a book which relied almost entirely on sensationalism ,and a twist which experienced readers could catch from miles away.

"The accumulated filth of all their sex and murders will foam up about their waist and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout "Save us!"...

....and I'll look down and whisper  "no."

I only read The Da Vinci Code and all I can say is meh.

I found angels and demons to be enjoyable and entertaining. Nothing more than that. The da vinci code wasn't as good, although I enjoy these kind of conspiracy novels half based on fact, and half based on wild speculation, they are far from profound literature, and Dan Brown is no exception.

The movie of the Da Vinci Code sucked as well. Tom Hanks and his stupid mullet
