Forums - Nintendo - 3 reasons for nintendo to be worried

whats with the doom and gloom on this site just lately

Around the Network

Doesn't everyone in this industry have to always worry?  There are always at least three big companies trying to attack each other -- they /should/ be worried.  That said, Nintendo has the least to worry about.

Particularly unthreatening is the Xbox 360 price cut.  Why?  Because Nintendo can't make Wiis fast enough to sell them despite outpacing Microsoft and Sony very significantly in production of Wiis.  And, further, Nintendo could afford to drop the price of the Wii at least $50 and still make a profit on every unit sold.  So why on earth should they worry about the 360?

The biggest thing Nintendo needs to worry about is how much money they're leaving on the table by shipping only about 1.8 million units per month world wide.  If Sony and Microsoft had a problem like that, they'd be celebrating.

I mean, if they could also be making money on each console sold...

The reason that the shortages didn't help Nintendo's competitors in the past was because the non gamers that were purchasing the Wii and made up the majority of people that bought games like Wii Fit and Wii Sports really didn't know what they were buying. At most they probably knew it was a new game console and not being people whom had spent much time really researching the market they didn't know or care about one console's capabilities from another. They probably assumed that all three systems had the same capabilities as they were all game machines to them. However as they become smarter about games and develop a more discerning palate for them or as more people finally have a chance to see the Wii's capabilities for themselves rather than just having their interest in the Wii stoked by word of mouth, fewer people will be willing to buy the Wii. As better games become available for the PS3, for example, you will see fewer people buying the Wii.

The Wii is certainly going to have a much more difficult time reaching 50 million consoles sold than it did reaching the 30 million consoles sold point. Of course another reason is that the Wii just doesn't have that strong of an upcoming game library.

1) Oh, so Nintendo tricked everyone into buying the Wii! I could have sworn that people were buying it because... you know, they wanted to buy it. But hey, if you want to continue living in denial, be my guest.

2) If you're going to make an account to troll, at least do some bare minimum of research first. Nintendo expects to sell 51m Wiis by the end of March 2009: that's almost 20m Wiis in the next six months. And they just UPPED that forecast, not downgraded it. The only way your prediction will come true is if there is a massive collapse in Wii sales this holiday season, which would be a lot more believable if folks like you hadn't been predicting it nonstop for the last 20 months.

Honestly, if you're going to comment on a sales website, at least take the time to READ THE COMPANY FINANCIALS. You can throw out garbage on Internet cesspools like gamefaqs and Gamespot and get away with it. Not here.

My Website

End of 2008 totals: Wii 42m, 360 24m, PS3 18.5m (made Jan. 4, 2008)

The above is a trolling post. See, I stated my opinion on the matter then this person attempts to goad me into making yet another post with their disparaging comments. I highly, highly doubt the Wii will ever see 51 million consoles sold by March 2009 with such a weak game lineup scheduled for the rest of the year. I guess we'll just have to see how it goes.

My most anticipated games:  Whatever Hideo Kojima is going to do next, Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Gran Turismo 5, Alan Wake, Wii Sports Resort.  Cave Story Wiiware.

^^ I think its better have a great lineup right now than a probably 2009.
Right now, Wii has a lot of great games, and a lot of games that gather the mainstream audience.
The mainstream gamer doesn't know that there is coming FFXIII, they look the current lineup and buy. And Nintendo has made such a great games this generation ;)

On topic, i don't thing #1,2 or 3 could make an important damage to wii sales at most #2.

You should understand that there's a reason why people buy the wii and IS NOT THE PRICE.

weirdo XDD what's up? being a 360 elitest?

omg...you'r weird..the Wii has a pretty good line-up...better than the HD consoles..because all those games will come out THIS year..

most Wii buyers haven't had time to buy all the games that are out (the GOOD ones) and enither have YOU HD console owners..

you do NOT have all the games yet..

you STILL demand more games..why?..alot of people haven't gotten brawl yet..only 30mil people have a Wii..and about 6-7mil have brawl?

the Wii WILL reach 50mil well before march 09

and the 360 WILL die this holiday season..

the PS3 is next

The 360 might not be in second place for that much longer, but there is no way its going to die this holiday season when Gears 2 will probably be the one game that sells the most copies.

hmm Gears2 will sell..yes..to fans of Gears1...not to new gamers..so..no new 360.. no SIGNIFICANT bump in sales..

so yes..it's slowly dying...

by it dying this holiday season..I mean: it won't significantly bump up..compared to other console's bumps..or previous bumps..and once your console can't sell in the holidays...
well...

i believe it was soccer moms, not hockey moms, lol.
Wii wont sell less than a gimped xbox 360 sku, sorry.
