G4 Says "No" To Xbox 360 Relaunch Rumor

While we're waiting to hear back from Microsoft on the VGChartz forum-sourced Xbox 360 "relaunch" rumor and speculation, one allegedly involved party has given us denial. G4 reps told us that the 5-hour special’ rumored to air on the cable network is "fake."

"We currently do not have anything planned in conjunction with Microsoft for September 25," the rep added. "I can’t speak for Microsoft but can say we do not have anything planned."

Nothing planned, they say. Perhaps G4 is blissfully unaware of Microsoft's plans to hijack its broadcast, as Weird Al Yankovic was notorious for doing to MTV in the mid 1980s. Damn you, Weird Al! If you do this one more time even with the aid of Microsoft, there will be hell to pay, free games or not!

did anyone else find it interesting they used the specific date like that?  not a "we do not have anything of the sort planned"  but a "we dont have anything on the 25th"

...

Do you like french fries?

No, I don't like french fries

Omg, he didn't say he didn't like spaghettis....

The question was probably something along the lines of "do you have something planned for the 25th that has something to do with MS", then one of the logical answers would be "no, we do not have anything planned for that date".  Doesn't necessarily mean anything more than what it means.

I would think if this were to happen we would have some confirmation soon on this, somewhere. Print ads take a while if they are color supplements.

However, if the details are being shared with Gamestop managers this week at their annual conference, it could happen.

But I doubt it. Of course, Microsoft might like the idea and decide to do it.

Is Microsoft Planning a "Launch Party" for the New Xbox Experience?

Yesterday, an interesting rumor emerged claiming that Microsoft was planning a huge launch party on September 25th to celebrate the release of the dashboard update. While it wouldn’t be odd for the company to hold some sort of event in order to drum up interest, the sheer magnitude of the event was going to be staggering.

According to the source, the company was teaming up with G4 to present a five-hour programming marathon, featuring a countdown and various product announcements along the way. Among these earth-shattering plans were going to be reveals for a partnership with Sirius satellite radio for service over Xbox Live, a new music store and, biggest of all, the announcement of twelve new Xbox 360 titles, coupled with the release of 6 free original Xbox games, among them the original Halo.

If you’re thinking this sounds too good to be true, you’re not alone. All of the features listed here were not even mentioned by Microsoft at the E3 dashboard reveal, and none of these features leaked at PAX either. Also, the fact that such a huge event was being planned and yet not a single promotion has been made on G4 (the studio that runs nonstop commercials about how you can watch Cops pretty much every hour of the day) seemed quite fishy. It turns out the whole thing is just a hoax.

Kotaku took it upon themselves to get a comment from G4, and according to the company, they have had absolutely no talks with Microsoft regarding such an event. While G4 reps couldn’t comment on what Microsoft may plan to do internally for the dashboard update, the station confirmed that there is no televised countdown and no major red carpet extravaganza. Looks like this is just a case of some over-eager fanboy using the Internet to spread his vision of a Utopian Xbox future. Well, we’re here to kill that Utopia and bring him back to harsh reality.

Microsoft: "No Comment" On Batshit Insane Xbox 360 Relaunch Rumor

Yesterday, we posted a suspicious rumor sourced from the VGChartz forums, one that foretold of an Xbox 360 relaunch. Said relaunch was to arrive with new, currently unannounced features, new exclusive game announcements, new free Xbox Originals, free puppies and kittens and a full service massage. Full service. It stank to high heaven of fanboy secretion, but, hey, you never know.

Well, in some cases you do know and the swift denial from G4 that it was somehow involved in a relaunch certainly helped.

Microsoft, however, has chosen not to go for flat out denial of the outlandish rumor, instead opting to not comment. "As always we don't comment on rumors or speculation," said a rep for the company. "We are launching the New Xbox Experience this fall," the response reminded us, adding that we'll be updated on the latest. Then there was a little smiley and that made us feel pretty good.
