I thought it was pretty common knowledge by now that it's a vehicle game.
I started to wonder about that game when it came out with a $40 price tag.
I really wonder about Rare these days.
I don't have an Xbox 360 -- but I remember the originals and I know a lot of people were looking forward to something like that again.
It seems their hopes and dreams may have been dashed.

Rare has not sucked since leaving Nintendo. Viva Pinata is fun and so was Kameo. Also, what is wrong with a company trying something new? People lambast the industry for producing so many cookie-cutter FPS and sequels, so why lambast a company for trying something new?

It's not that I disagree with you, but the barrage of cookie cutter FPS's is a reason to change up FPS's not the 1 to 2 High profile Platformers that come out each Generation.
I'm sure the new B&K will be awesome in it's own right.
I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.
Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.
Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!
Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

Don't be a baby. New Viva Pinata retails for 39.99 and currently sits at 8.5 on metacritic. Nothing is wrong with rare as most of their games have been 8.0 or above.

I know that is no reason to change a platformer, but platformers have been done and they have been done well. A game such as Nuts & Bolts, so far as I know, has not been done. I applaud Rare for taking such a risk and daring to try something new.
The traditional incarnation of platforming titles has truly become stale. I am sure Rare could have pulled a Nintendo and ripped off the previous games in their series. They could have just upped the visuals, created some new levels, and added in a couple more zany moves. With no detrimental effects the title could easily sell a million copies in its lifetime.
However I think that is the point that he was making. The genre has been done to death. Without innovation there is only stagnation. Further more the genre is weakest in what consumers want the most. They want character building, online play, replay, and creativity. None of which has been a strong suit of the genre.
This genre is about as retro as you can get harking back to days when perfect timing was the key to gaming rather then any inherent strategy or creativity. You will run a platforming level till the repetition forges muscle memory. Then once you have done that to all the levels available, and win the game you have absolutely no reason to return. You can never recapture the game. Which is unfortunate, because these games are not known for even being decent time sinks.
This time around Rare looks to be bringing the important elements found in other genres into the platforming genre. The vehicle creation is character building. The online modes are about community. The creativity enhances replay, because it gives players freedom to do the same things in radically different ways. Which is what players really love to do once they have played through a game. They want to see what happens if they try something else.
I think people are going to be surprised and humbled by this title. I am waiting to see what the online modes look like before I make any commitments for myself. Give me a battle mode where I get to create my vehicle and duke it out with seven of fifteen other players online in an arena. Oh you can bet I will be all over that shit.

I think people were so used to Rare giving us 9 out of 10 games that when one of their games gets an 8 out of 10 they label it subpare. People forget that an 8 is still very good.
