Forums - Sony - Should Bioshock PS3 be a budget title?

Was just thinking about this...the game is due out soon and it will be 12 months since the 360 version hit the shelves.  Yes, there are a few differences and upgrades to the 360 version, but surely this should be a budget game?

I reckon they would sell more copies if they released the game in the UK at a standard £29.99 RRP rather than the normal £49.99 RRP.  And because you get normal discounts in stores etc, so it can be picked up for like £19.99 or £24.99.

What are your thoughts?

I couldn't agree with you more.

It's about maximizing profit, not copies sold.

They release it for 50, sell X copies.
Then they can lower the price. But they can't raise the price.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

I could see it with a slight discount and I think it should have, but not necessarily something major. 15$ (1/4 priceslash) will do fine for me.

Thanks.  I grow tired of "This should be cheaper" threads.

Shit costs money.  Life sucks when you can't afford everything you want.  Better get used to it, or you're gonna be sad for the rest of your life.

Why sell it at a discount? it's a port yes, but a painfull one to make (proof is how long it takes to port it) and thus they need the money to repay it.

Now you could argue that it's available for cheap on PC... but the people that could buy it on PC would already have it and not be potential buyers of the PS3 version anyways.

So no it's a highly rated game that is new to the console, so full price.

OoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoO

It'd be nice if they did, but they won't.

Their reasoning would be "well if you wanted a crappy port without adjusting to the PS3's specs, then you can have a budget price, but we are planning to port his right with upgrades, which costs money." (they'll make it sound better then that, but that's the general gist of it)

Having beaten the 360 version already, I'm going to pass on this one until it gets to a bargain bin price.

Ehh if it had any real replay value I would buy it but bioshock doesn't so just one play through is more then enough.

The bottom line is this! This is a port, whether it's crappy or not, it's a port. It wasn't in development when the game came out for the 360, so it's been decided once it came out for the 360 that they would make a PS3 version. Yes porting the game would cost money, but the majority of the development costs were for the 360 version and seeing as it sold nearly 2m copies, I reckon they'd have made their money back and then some.

I can afford this game if it comes out at full price, but I along with a fair few other next gen console owners are very picky on what games I pick up and cost is an factor in that as well.

Yes I would love to be able to get LittleBigPlanet, Force Unleashed, Resistance 2, Motorstorm Pacific Rift and Bioshock in the next few months, but I have to be picky as all these games would cost me around £200 (yes nearly $400) and I just cannot justify spending this amount of cash on games. But if a game like Bioshock was released at a budget price, and I mean a truly budget price (looking at the reasoning above), then I would probably get it as it would be a no-brainer. But because of the cost of Next Gen games, I will probably only get Motorstorm Pacific Rift and Resistance 2.

Also, no matter how good Bioshock is for the PS3, I highly doubt it will sell much more than 500k lifetime.
