Forums - Microsoft - No price drop? Does Microsoft think Sony is a joke?

Speaking of which, did anyone ever figure out how the hell they spun their numbers to claim they were outselling the Wii in hardware? I never figured that one out.

I could have swore he said "first party software titles in the top 10 list"... not console sales.  Who's top ten list? I have no idea.

It seems the mods need help with this forum.  I have zero tolerance for trolling, platform criticism (Rule 4), and poster bad-mouthing (Rule 3.4) and you will be reported.

They were talking third party software and said the 360 sold as much third party software as the Wii and PS3 combined... Which when you look at how dominated the Wii is with Nintendo games it's not hard to see why.

Ah okay, thanks for clearing that up.  Yeah, most 3rd party Wii games aren't set for release till Q3 and Q4 07 at the earliest or 08.  If you took the percentage of first and 3rd party games and compared them the numbers would probably be signifficantly closer.  Still, I'm sure the 360 would have the edge.

They may want to see the final sales numbers for the first month of the price drop of the PS3 before they do anything,

Plus M$ just want to nickel and dime you to death, aslong as you keep buying the crap they sell over XBL, just remember you're buying a blank disc and are forced to buy tracks and cars and other crap from M$ for your games.

Well that's not new they said before there are intentions to do it. When are they actually gonna do it? Obviously not yet.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

Hell if I know wtf they are doing. Announcing a future price cut will kill your current sales. And if they think that a $249 360 will hurt Nintendo more than themselves, they are delusional.

I meant they announce it and do it right away like Sony.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

they prolly wont do it till the 65nm chip 360 is out or when it looks like ps3 sales are getting too close.

No surprise at all. If 360 sales fall, then they will consider a price drop.

Historically, the consoles that price drop the most are also the ones that die the quickest.

They will still sell a shiteload of 360's when Halo comes out. I predict price drop on Thanksgiving - maybe with the launch of the Halo / 360 pack...

I'm not sure if he meant since last Nov or it seems May (the month the other numbers end at) but either way it's not exactly surprising.  If he meant since last Nov like the other numbers then the 360 has averaged around 70-75% of the install.  If he meant simply the last month, I'm guessing May, then the 360 had 60% of install base.  Given the Wii and PS3's weak first year lineup that's not exactly lighting the charts on fire.

As for a price cut I think they'll wait for the Halo fanbase to check in to the 360 this year and then cut the price.  No reason to lose the $100-200 million they'll give them with a price cut.  It seems that MS is very serious about being profitable FY08 like they said.  Maybe the shareholders are being to get restive.
