OCD is Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. As defined by Wikipedia: "Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a chronic anxiety disorder most commonly characterized by obsessive, distressing, intrusive thoughts and related compulsions (tasks or "rituals") which attempt to neutralize the obsessions."

I have quite a few compulsions, some take up as little as a few seconds, while some can take up some more.

1. Whenever I wash my hands (I don't have a hand-washing compulsion. I used to, not anymore), I have to wash the parts of my hands in order. First palms, then fingers, then wrists. This takes up only one minute.

2. A door has to be either fully open all the way or fully closed. Usually that takes half a second to do.

3. Two objects can not touch each other. They can't. And when they're apart, they cannot be parallel, they have to have a slight angle diffirentation. This can take only 2 or 3 seconds.

4. When I open a cabinet, I have to open the left door of a cabinet first, then the right one immediately follows. I close the cabinet left one first then right one with the same timing. This doesn't take up any extra time then opening a cabinet normally.

5. When I go up or down stairs, my left foot has to be the first one that touches the top or bottom of the stairs first. And I have to climb stairs normally, no skipping steps and no more than one foot to a step. This takes up the same amount of time as climbing stairs normally.

6. My bed has to usually be made perfectly. That means sheets and blankets have to be laid down perfectly. For some reason, I don't care how the pillows are arranged. This can take up a couple minutes getting the bed perfect.

7. This one is hard to describe. At each door in my house, there is a gold border at the bottom of the door that seperates the rooms. Whenever I enter or exit a room, I put the center of my right foot on that border, and then I put my left foot outside the room, then leave. This only takes up a second.

So that's seven compulsions. This only takes up like ten or fifteen minutes each day. If you have severe OCD, you have numerous compulsions and you can waste hours of your day doing them.

Yes I Suffer from OCD. Leads to Panic Attacks in my case.

I dont think I have it but when I sleep, the door should be a little more than half way open. Not closed, not fully open.

Other than that, my life is fine

Another OCD I have is that the tabs that I use in IE7 have to be arranged according to rank or importance. For example, all tabs in VGChartz come first. The most important VGChartz tab I put first is the VGChartz front page.

Also, a habit is technically not OCD since it isn't brought upon by anxiety or distress.

No but my younger brother is obsessive and compulsive and i shared a room with for years, which was.......interesting.

For me, my compulsions constantly change. For example, 4 and 7 were acquired in the last couple of weeks. In a month, I could have 3 more completely different compulsions.

I usually get rid of the compulsions through exposure. Meaning I just don't do the compulsions and see that it isn't so bad that I didn't do it.

Not in a Monk-like fashion, but I have my little obsessions

-For example, when I'm about to go somewhere, I usually pick some tissues, because I use them a lot. And I always have to rub my nostrils with the last one I pick.
-Also, I have to close every FF tab with clicking the wheel.
-When I have a pen in my hand, I have to bite it. It also helps me, because I usually carry three, and I can recognize the one -I'm using because it's the biten, while the others are mint.
-I have to turn off my cellphone when I go to sleep. If I'm in bed and realize I left my cell on, I go turn it off.

-All the open windows in my PC (except the small ones) have to be fully maximized, I get mad when a big one is missing a centimeter to be maximized. This happens usually with Firefox, I get mad when it doesn't start Full-Screen

I probably have more, if I think some others I'll post them

There is a difference between obsession and compulsion. Obsessions are thoughts that cause compulsions. Compulsions are tasks or acts that satisfy the obsession.
