Forums - Gaming - IGN: Assassin's Creed is first "next gen" game, this thread works

This is next gen? Go anywhere and kill anyone? Didn't they do this with GTA?

I'll email IGN and let them know that it was last gen.

 XD

Ok, so otherwise it's established that Assassins Creed is a super refinement of GTA - esque free roaming principles?

Refinements are great and necessary as they set standards for games. But to me "next gen" indicates a level of evolution in gaming as a whole. This can be graphics, controls and a host of other things. But refinements usually don't qualify as pushing the envelope for evolution, just simply smoothing over the rock tossed into the stream.

Climb anything, go anywhere, kill anyone.

Spider man, spider man, does whatever spider can...

OMG, i just watched the press conference for Microsoft and the game looks and plays like crap, the whole time you could see glitches and the chacter walking and bumping into people he never even touched, the bad guys just sat their and watched as you took them on 1v1, this is the biggest joke of the show, But CoD and RE:5 and Halo looked simply amazing :)

There can't be a 'best game of the year' Cause EVERYTHING is coming out this holiday season.

Mario.

Halo.

GTA.

Assassins creed.

Super smash bros: Brawl.

Bioshock.

Metroid 3.

And with everyone having it's own taste... It just comes down to what you like.

For instance: One friend of mine will DEFINITELY have Halo 3 up there.

But i'll have Mario at no1. spot!

Another two guys will have Super smash bros: Brawl up there.

And another will love GTA 4.

So... They are all great.. And it should be a tie ... Or we'll get lots of different 'best game of the year' games from other sites.

THE NETHERLANDS

The first next gen experience was whatever launch titles there were for the X360 if you look at it from a purely literal point of view.

I thought the animation in it looked pretty good, but it obvious still needs a lot of work (a lot of bugs to squash).  Hopefully everything will come together by it's release date this year or if it doesn't that they at least delay it until it does.  I'm actually really looking forward to the game.

You do understand it's not a finished game right?  Blows my mind that so many people knock games for a buggy demo.

Ohhhh please... the first true next-gen experience was Wii Sports. Do you really believe that the "take the interactive experience to a new level" is to climb anywhere? Interactivity? Tennis racket? Hello? Anyone out there?

i cant really define what "next gen" is, but if you consider that waving the wiimote as a next gen experience, what about the guitar in guitar hero? dance pad in DDR? what about the eye toy?. cmon playing a guitar in a game isnt that interactivity? dancing? doing things on screen?. how many "next gens" have we gone through then? i dont think next gen is really the term your looking for, more like innovative..

"Jade Raymond pics." agreed ^^

I will have to agree with you. I should define better what I mean by next-gen. And those games you mentioned were certainly very innovative.

I guess each one on this forum has a their own meaning for what next-gen is. I guess we can all agree that we refer to new consoles as next-gen. It is the current use. It also seems that people use it for something that was not done before. Many use these words for graphics only. If that is how they feel, fine. Also, the article talks about next-gen interactivity. When talking about interctivity on a new console and something that was not done before, the first one was Wii Sports. I guess this gives you a better idea of what I meant.

It is a different kind of interactivity though. The one in assassins creed is in game and the one in Wii Sports is out game.

By the way, as a side comment. I am very impressed by assassins creed. A must have for me.

It looked buggy at the E3, it needs a lot of work.

That game is the next prince of persia for a while.

I havent played the game yet, so I'm not gonna say anything about Assasins Creed in terms of how it plays or how it is next gen. (If any of you have played it, send me a message please)
Ok, seriously. If Wii sports motion control is so next gen, and it simulates Tennis, bowling, boxing, and anything else on that game so well. If you think it 'simulates' your CRAZY!!!

I can bowl with the flick of my wrist, I can play tennis, with the Wiimote in my mouth, and WIN. Seriously? That's simulation? Ok.

I love tennis, and I really enjoy bowling. Wii Sports does not feel in the LEAST bit like a 'simulator' which is what it's meant to do? Isnt it? If it's NOT a simulator... Then it's just another... game, with a diffrent interface. On a serious standpoint, if it is just a diffrent controller method, that is like the diffrence from Dual Shock2, VS Six Axis.

I'm sorry but I dont understand why 'motion' controlls mean so much. I think digital control to analog was a bigger leap than the 'motion' control they have today. Maybe the next gen motion control will allow for simulation of sports, and stuff, but this gen, it's nothing more than a diffrent type of analog stick to me. If the system was as advanced as you guys seem to make it, yes, I would be impressed. But to me all it is, is a analog stick based off tilt, and a button based accelerometer. Overall nothing special for me.

You should think a bit better before posting. You should also study some mathematical logic to set up your arguments a bit better. I've been reading this forum for a while and you do this just too much.

From wikipedia(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fallacy): "A fallacy is a component of an argument that is demonstrably flawed in its logic or form, thus rendering the argument invalid in whole."

Let's look at your statement: "If Wii sports motion control is so next gen, and it simulates Tennis, bowling, boxing, and anything else on that game so well."

Who said it is trying to simulate these sports? I guess you are the only one who thinks that, since you are the one to brought this up. Then comes your next statement: "If you think it 'simulates' your CRAZY!!!" Owned by your own arguments?
