In a late breaking story SmartHouse News has been able to confirm that PAL markets including Australia and the UK will get a PS3 price cut on July 12th.

The Managing Director of Sony Computer Entertainment in Australia, Michael Ephraim, has confirmed that a PAL market announcement will be made on July 12 2007 regarding price cuts to the PAL market PS3.

It is expected that the PAL market Sony PS3 models, which are among the most expensive in the world, will be cut by as much as 17%. This will bring the Australian model down to $829.00.

Very interesting. IMO, such a price cut will really make Europe competitive vs. the Wii.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

In 'Other Regions' the Wii is outselling the PS3 nearly 3 to 1 ... The best this price cut could possibly do is reduce that to a 2 to 1 margin ...

I think thats great news, especially in the UK, with the supermarket chains being in such competition, we might be able to pick up a PS3 for £320.

Lots more people here will pick them up here

That was quicker than I expected. There has to be some cost reduction that happened for Sony to be able to drop the price everywhere like this, at least some...

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

Good for the people who wanted to buy an PS3.

I hope this is true,
Sony is maybe understanding that PAL (and so europe) is their best market.
It will be hard to compete with the Wii since the console is really cheapier and is so different.
But if they make this price drop, european sales will really improve a lot.
(a lot more than the NA sales since PS3 sell already better than Xbox360).

Time to Work !

Only for France ?

Wrong, it will make it competitive against the xbox 360. The wii will still be nearly half the price of a PS3 (in the UK).

Good news for consumers though, and if my 360 dares to break...

I'm still waiting for a £299 PS3 (that's $600 to you moaning americans) with a couple of killer apps - then I'll be in.

Agreed but I wouldn't doubt that they are taking a lose by this. Their plan may be to try and do this to increase userbase, and increase the number of games on the system(more royalties) and so on. I don't think the Price cut wiull help too much. It won't beat the Wii, but maybe the 360 ddown the road.
