if you can't do anything about it, you can always ignore it.

I wouldn't be concerned either. This continuity of Sony will never change though.

well, IDK how much of a 360 price cut will hinder the PS3's sales. I'm pretty sure that if PS3 HW sales stay the same or close to wat it sells now, and the 360 HW sales sky rocket, Sony will be happy because they have Others and Japan that's outselling the 360. In reality, I don't think both systems could sell real high in NA together on none holiday months.

marketshare isn't Sony's main focus, its profit or at least breaking even. With the fact Sony is easily making a profit off the 160GB model and maybe a small amount off the new 80GB model it is a matter of time before they shift focus back towards marketshare versus profit. Sony does care about marketshare still though that's why they are focusing on getting out so many great games.

A similar price drop for the PS3 would mean much much more than one on the 360.

So you see it to huh?? ^_^

 ;) i know

Why would they care? It's not going to stop their consoles from selling.

Companies like Nintendo, Sony and MS don't think like the people on this forum do. You don't drop the price of your console for no other reason than the other person is doing, and without any evidence that they're capable of outselling your platform even with the price cut.

last time i saw an article which say the value of making a 360 is around $200 for hardware model and $150 for the arcade model.

What did they expect them to do, have a large press conference the next day crying and pleading with MS to not do it?

Of course they are going to act like they don't care. Meanwhile their strategists are determining if they need to follow suit or just continue with their plans of not doing anything until after this fiscal year.

Exactly.

The strategists are determining whether or not to drop, but they probably don't have much leeway to do so.  If they get pwned in September NPD, it will be chalked up to the price drop, but losing October/November/December NPD would make them price drop...  But let's not get ahead of ourselves.  If the price drop does minimally, and PS3 and 360 are close, even if PS3 loses NPD, they won't price drop, but if 360 wins by like 100k or something crazy like that, a price drop would be imminent.

But we won't really see the effects of this until January or February, as holiday sales will help bolster PS3 higher too...  Should be interesting October (Sept NPD)...

Sony don't care if they lose in North America as long as they beat M$ in Europe and Japan.

Sony>M$ in Japan
Sony>M$ in Europe
M$>Sony in North America
