Forums - Gaming - Played Street Fighter IV, Impressions inside

Today I went down to china town (NYC) to one of the rare Arcade spots that actually has Street Fighter IV. My impressions are:

-First thing I said when I got there, MY GOD, It's beautiful! The graphics can easily attract anybody who looks at it (there were a bunch of people surrounding it, some played, some watched).

-The game is slow, the characters move slower than any other SF game that I've played in recent years. It could be because I am used to a more fast-paced game (Marvel vs Cacpom series). The same thing happened when I went from playing MvsC2 to Street Fighter 3rd strike, but going from SF 3rd strike to 4, u will notice that its much slower.

-I sucked ass at first because I had not played arcades for awhile, so I went and played some third strike. When I came back and played, I was much better cuz I got used to the arcades, meaning that SF IV and SF third strike are very similar (besides  not being able to parry and the addition of the ultra moves).

-This brings me to the ultra moves. The ultra move is when u get hit alot, a meter next to ur super bar fills up. When it fills up, u can do a Ultra special which takes a bunch of ur health.....This I don't like. The last match I played, on the last round, I was kicking this dood's ass, I was using Ken and he was using Bison. He had very little health and I had a little over half of my health left, he caught me with the ultra move and I died. I really don't like the idea of losing a match when u pretty much had the match won by somebody that would have lost had it not been that BS ultra special.

-There's also a move (IDK wat its called) that every character can do, which is when they charge up an attack and unleash it with cool brush strokes to emphasize the attack. This is also annoying because when some one is charging this, they absorb any physical attack that u do, unless u hit them twice (IDK if fireballs or specials are absorbed as well). I know that hitting somebody twice doesn't sound like too much, but more often than not, before u get that second hit in, they will unleash the power that they were charging. When this happens, u are momentarily stunned, fall down to ur knees and u can get hit with a combo, not to mention that it takes a good amount of health. Also, u can't block this....yea...I know.

-The EX moves (when u have part of ur super bar filled, allowing u to do a move with more damage or more hits) from SF 3rd strike are back, I was pretty happy about that.

I know there is more, but that's all I can remember. I played like around 14 matches or so, so I played a bunch of different characters, feel free to ask wat ur favorite character is like or any questions u may have.

for something that is described as slow paced it sounds like there will be a lot of tension trying to predict those "cheap moves" that you describe.

Taking out the parry system sucks. It was cheap and I loved it. How's Ken? Does he still have his normal combos?

well the charging move (thats wat I shall call it from now on) is usually done when some one knocks u down and u are getting up. If timed right, u will stand up and get hit by it, that's y I didn't like it.

heh, Ken, that's my guy :). yea he does have his traditional moves/combos, and he also has that kick while standing up that hits people that are blocking while ducking, u should know wat kick I'm talking about.

I really hope they remake this game (won't be surprised if they do).

@Snake:

The backwards dp motion kick???! OMG That move is epic!!!!

Is Sagat still a cheap ass, though? Seriously.... He's the cheapest thing in history.

Yea Sagat is still a "cheap ass" I guess lol. If u didn't like how he was in the SF alphas, then u won't like him in SF IV since he plays the same.

IDK wat kick ur talking about, but the kick i'm talking about is this one (at :23 seconds when chun li is on the floor)

Oh thaaat kick! Sagat... man, they need to tone his ass down some. He's gonna be hard to fight again I suspose. I want this game now. If this game is good, I'm quiting Brawl.

Sagat's range/camping game is just insanely too freakin good. Best character in SF history if you don't count the broken ones (Old school Akuma and Gill).

How was Ken?

EDIT: Nevermind, saw that you already answered that. How was Vega?
