Forums - Gaming - Has Sony taken a gamble by announcing release date of R2 so close to GOW2?

i was just wandering that these two titles are always discussed as direct competitor to each other and now Sony has announced the release date of Resistance 2 just 3 days before the release date of Gear of War 2. So i believe that the success or failure of Resistance 2 is going to be one of the important factor in determining the sales of GOW2....

I mean if Resistance 2 is really epic and lives upto all the hype and some more than reviewers are going to be very tough on GOW2 and it may slightly effect the sales of GOW2 also. and similarly if Resistance 2 is not really upto its hype than GOW2 is going to get a bit lenient reviewing and more sales.. and Resistance 2 may not even be able to match its first installments sales.

Moreover if Resistance 2 is really really great than with the LBP releasing a week earlier and some strong word of mouth on both of these games, it will provide a very good holiday sales for PS3 in US... and if Resistance 2 fails to do so it may cause an adverse effect to the momentum of PS3 sales... and XBOX might lead in US during holidays..

anyway just a bit wild thinking... but i sure believe Sony has taken a gamble by releasing this game so close to GOW2 and has shown a lot of trust on Insomniac...

/*Just some random thoughts..*/

Well the way I see it, these 2 games were always compared because their first installments launched close to each other IIRC and have also been compared to death. Sony releasing it near GeOW2 IMO is kinda smart, cuz it can keep any current PS3 owner from jumping ship because of Gears 2, its like "Hey, Gears 2 aint the only big game coming out, R2 is here too!" None of these games will hinder the sales of the games and especially review scores (as the media is surely to give Gears 2 atleast a handful of 10s), but it will affect HW sales IMO.

Gears is gonna get talked about a lot more during that time and it will get more face time in the media. R2 is just gonna live in Gears' shadow. 3 days isn't gonna make a difference to buy one console over another for a game.

Why is it a gamble? Im not going to not buy resistance 2 just because a good game has come out on another console...why would other PS3 fans be affected?

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

have u seen the multiplayer in R2 it looks awsome

they have expanded on the cod4 model, in where when u register a kill a +10 comes up, well in R2 every bullet ticks the number up like a timer, it will feel ace machine gunning someone down to raise the exp score

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

But i feel if R2 is ranked as a better game overall (definitely its not going to beat GOW2 on graphics) than GOW2 is going to live in the shadow of R2...

I think it is going to make a difference for those ppl who have both consoles... i don't think they r going to buy both... and as both of these games are going to release so close to each other therefore one is going to be forgotten... Maybe some will buy both... but i vast majority is going to pick one over the other..

Different console bases mean that Gears wont be touched by Resistance.

Last time I checked they were on different consoles.

T help you a littler :

1-

90% of the R2 or G2 future owners ALREADY HAVE A PS3 OR A XBOX360
=
90% of the sales will not be linked to the success or the failure of their ocunter part...

2-

PS3 = 400$
Xbox360 = 300-200$

U dont hesitate between the 2 consoles ...

3-

Title will be in competition, that is sure but I doubt that sales will be determined by their relative "review" success ...

Time to Work !

the only people this affects is people with both a ps3 and a 360. that's probably a pretty small percent of consumers and those who do have both are probably the hardcore gamers that very well might pick up both.
