I just don't understand how the Republicans plan on getting the national debt under control. I am all for McCain's crusade against pork barrel spending, but pork barrel spending is at an absolute max 5-10% of the federal budget.

We are going to have to raise taxes, or the interest we will be paying on the national debt in 50 years or so will be over 25-35% of the national budget at the rate we are going. Otherwise we will have to severely reduce our military and other areas of the budget to save money.

The republicans don't plan on getting the debt under control. McCain already has lobbyists lined up, Oil companies waiting for the continuation of their tax cuts and POW's (much like himself) to vote against helping. The difference between Obama and McCain is that given McCain's history in Arizona boast that he is the devil you know, while Obama is the devil in which you don't know.

The first half of the speech was...pointless? I didn't really hear that much at all that meant a thing...I have a son in Iraq, I love my family, my candidate is better than the other candidate, and that is about it. Maybe the second half is better.

The first part is her trying to let the people know who she is. The second part is what she has done in office, and the last half is her talking shit about Obama (and pumping up McCain)

She does a good job at being the attack dog. I do love one line she says:

"Here's how I look at the choice Americans face in this election: In politics, there are some candidates who use change to promote their careers, and then there are those, like John McCain, who use their careers to promote change"

I love that line, because all I ever hear from Obama is "we need change", but he never tells you what kind of change he is for. He has no platform, other then to say he is different. He response to the speech was this:

"If Gov. Palin and John McCain want to define 'change' as voting with George Bush 90 percent of the time, that's their choice, but we don't think the American people are ready to take a 10 percent chance on change"

Same "Vote for change" bullshit.

I'm afraid you're buying into their rhetoric.  Do you honestly believe a man with no platform could take down a Clinton?  It's really easy to find Obama's platform if you actually care.  He has a web site.  I go to both candidates' web sites every election.  Even if you've already made up your mind, it's good to know your enemey.  Obama also talks about his ideas a lot.  If you're going to reduce Obama's entire platform to "change' I can just as easily reduce McCain's entire platform to "tits."

umm... I hate to tell you this but Hilary was not an amazing pres can. There are tons of people that just don't like her, whether it be her crazy healthcare plan or the fact she acts like a bitch. I am MUCH more supportive of Obama for instance. I think McCain will make a great pres, but if Obama becomes pres I will take it.... ok. (but I will have my fingers crossed he is not as much of a pussy on foriegn policy as it would seem.)

Also, I find it humorous that now all the Obama supporters are claiming "all rhetoric no substance"  kinda ironic if you ask me.

Are you saying that reducing government spending is a bad thing? There is a ton of stuff, outside of pork barrel spending that is stupid, and useless. That's kind of why part of the speeches today were about smaller government.

If McCain wins they will be stablizing the government spending in which bush laid out. If it was Romney I would say otherwise. However McCain is a devil, I do know.

I'm sorry, but the Republicans punted that football a long time ago with people like Reagan and George W. Bush ballooning the national debt like it didn't matter at all.  One of the reasons why the economy is having a hard time getting back in gear is directly related to the depreciation of the dollar, which caused oil prices to soar out of control since its price is directly linked to the dollar.

State governments are actually much more out of control than the federal government, which really hasn't grown much in the last 30 years compared to state governments which have almost doubled in size.  If you look at the actual numbers, and who is responsible for ballooning the federal government (George W. Bush), the big government argument is mostly just Republican chest-beating.  When it comes to the kind of government they want (such as military), they want the government to be bigger.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

Anyone who quotes Huffington needs a kick in the crotch. What a load of shit. It's Bill O'Reilly polarized.

It's sad to think people believe this shit.

Once we finally pull out of Iraq that will go a long way to helping control the debt. That combined with a pork barrel slashes will get us much closer to a balanced budget.

I have always like President Bush, I believe he is a good man, with great charater. He obviously blew it a few times (not as much as many would like you to believe)

BUT- I think the stupidest thing he did was cut taxes, then go to war. I know why he did it. He wanted to keep his campaign promise (unlike his father), but the circumstances where much different after 9/11

THe stupidest thing he ever did, was invade Iraq. Cutting taxes is a good thing.

Here is an interesting statistic. Every year the government cuts taxes, they collect more money. If the goal is to generate more income for the government, why would you raise them?

I don't regularily read it but though biased, it made sense.

In most cases when the taxes are raised, they are used for circulated government programs. Dems are big on programs.

Oh, and I went to Obama's site, and read a few things. Not a real fan. Here is one thing that down right scars me:

Mandatory Coverage of Children: Obama will require that all children have health care coverage.

http://www.barackobama.com/issues/healthcare/

What does that mean? If you don't cover your kids, you go to jail? Get fined? What? Why does the government get to make that choice? Scary.
