I think it will be a 1 year timed exclusive. 6 months or so after it comes out on the PS3, they announce a 360 version and that comes out 6 months later. This is if the sales on the PS3 aren't as high as they hoped. |
It is impossible to tell from this list, but most publishers have equal sales numbers from games that have sold less than 1 Million copies as they have from games that have broken the Million barrier. Kojima is important but he is no Miyamoto (Miyamoto influences every Nintendo made game and has an impact on many third party games released on Nintendo systems) ...
He (obviously) won't get fired, but he also probably doesn't have the loyalty to Sony that many people think that he does. Marketing executives tell you to talk up a console when you're releasing an exclusive game for it in order to boost sales to get the console's fanboys excited; at the same time he (potentially) thinks that most of the Metal Gear fans are Sony fanboys so he talks up the console to get them excited too.
Ultimately, if he was told that a parallel development team was begining to port the game to the XBox 360 and the game was being delayed for 3 months (to release both versions at the same time) he would probably not fight it. He gets to make his game how he wants it to be made and he knows this is entirely because the publisher believes they can make a good profit off of it; he will not do anything to reduce the profitibility of the publisher or to hurt his relationship he currently has.
Hypothetically speaking, if Kojima resisted it being ported and MGS4 was released for the PS3 and bombed he would not be given the free reign on MGS5 that he currently has and Kojima knows this ...
