XBox360 is less than 2 days away from being the cheapest next-gen system. That is awesome.
NPD day in October is gonna be EPIC. When folks see that it still got outsold by the Wii, people's hearts are gonna break.

Errr no.
Tease.
For it to outsell the PS3 it would basically have to sell like 120,000 units every week for September. The PS3 SHOULDN'T drop below around 70,000 units a week, and Europe will remain completely unaffected by the price drop.
Not only do I doubt the 360 can maintain outselling the PS3 by more than 30,000 a week (the Wii can barely do it), I doubt they can even outsell the PS3 by 30,000 that first week.
This will decide a lot for my theory that the 360 was being bought mostly by previous Xbox owners. The Xbox only hit 15,000,000 LTD in America, and the 360 is only 3,000,000 below that right now. The 360 selling over 20,000,000 consoles in the US alone lifetime isn't probable to happen, and with the PS3's Blu-Ray and LBP I think this move just keeps them in the races for NA, and won't create any distance.

What he said...any word?
I'm interested to see how the US consumer reacts to this , unlike many in this thread I'm not going to claim I know how it will turn out.
Scenario 1. Microsoft brake a huge affordability barrier which will bring the 360 into the price ranges of many people waiting to either buy a 360 or just buy a HD console ( even more important considering NA's current economic situation.) Microsoft gets alot of new customers , steals potential PS3 and sees week on week sales.
Scenario 2. Price drops , demand increases for 2-3 weeks and drops within a 5k margin of the PS3 sales putting them about neck and neck.
Scenario3. Price drops , demand increases for 2-3 weeks and sales return slightly above where they were previously.
Any of the above could happen but scenario 1&2 are most likely , in anycase a PS3 price drop would nullify any effect of a XBOX price drop ( however this is pretty much not gonna happen) Sony will probably only drop price if the XBOX 360's price point is seen to cause long term problems for the PS3 in NA.
This is it then...now or never.
Good luck to MS

^ Yep, good luck to ms too
MS is really pushing it this year from all the rpgs, securing ff13, gears of war 2, new 360's with 60gb (and quiter too), and now prices drops in japan and us. Looks like we'll have to wait for the results.

Above I'm a proud Gran Turismo fan, not a Sony fanboy, and now a proud 360 owner, but sharing xbox live accts ATM
End of 2009 Predictions (made Jan 1, 2009): My predictions were pretty accurate, the 360 was over and the Wii was just under.
Wii: 65 mil (yea I'm crazy) 360: 35 mil (its getting there) PS3: 30 mil (the slim better do well)
End of 2010 Predictions (made Jan 7, 2010):
Wii: 81 mil 360: 47 mil PS3: 45 mil
