Absolutely, it seems like we're trying to police the world for no good reason. Communism is all but dead. It's time to shift ideals and bring things back home. I understand the need to protect stable oil assets, but a lot of that has to do with liberals fighting domestic oil production, which has dropped significantly in the past 20 years. If the US was able to start drilling again and get alternative energy sources (nuclear, anyone?) up and running in the next decade, there's no good reason to keep so many troops all over the world. Having strategic bases in certain countries will always but useful but much of that can be cut way back if we weren't so (unnecessarily) reliant on other countries' commodities markets.

Make this country more independent and many of these defense problems simply go away.

The problem with that is people are still thinking decades back, thinking Nuclear Plants and Oil drilling are still dangerous when they're both fairly safe.

It would be nice if we got some plants up while we wait the minimium 10-20 years for alternative energy to be useful.

Simply giving tax credits to people who go off the grid isn't going to be enough in a country as large as ours.

Yeah. But some people miss the Cold War and are trying to re-invent it. They want America to forever be the policeman of the world. They want a large military build up that will require a much larger portion of the US GDP to go towards defense spending and more troops deployed around the world. Hey, I'm not making this stuff up.

We have to have an -ism to fight against our people in this country start shitting bricks.

Colonialism
Imperialism
Racism (Civil War and others)
Fascism
Communism
Terrorism

See which ones you can come up with!

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

Okay, how about Bushism?

Edit: Oh, wait...

Absolutely no talk of McCains speech?

I give it a B+. That's the old McCain I fell in love with.

"I will veto that bill and I will tell you their names". Brilliant. Go get 'em, Johnny.

They're bringing out her dirty laundry because that's POLITICS. When you get involved in politics, this is what happens. That's the same thing they did to Obama right? They talked about how his pastor is a racist and how his brother is anti-white even though he's mixed. What i'm saying is that this is politics and apparently this is how the game is played if you don't like it get out. Plus these are trying times, everyone is crying out for change and therefore whoever is going to be in charge of our future and our children's future are going to be thoroughly examined.

This is not a beauty pagent. This woman is treating this as if it were. Mccain is 72 years old, people, that's not a young age and apparently he has some kind of sickness, he could kill over at any time and we would be stuck with a woman that just barely got her feet wet in the field. Let me remind you that this is the same country that four years ago was crying about how we need change and when the time came to make that change they went and voted for the same president that caused all the problems "BUSH". Then the complaints still continue. I'm just sick of this whole thing. Now I'm crying," we need a change and Mccain and Palin are not it". Mccain went got got that poor woman just to get more attention, to stir up some things, which she did and she knows how to do it. That is all.

People have made it their business to attack her personal life and not her proffesional life, which I think is just plain dirty.

Here's the thing, conservatives like this woman attack everyone's personal life.  They want absistence only education, they want Creationism in schools, they want to ban same-sex relationships, they want to take women's rights to birth control away, and so forth.

If someone tells me who I can marry and what other personal decisions I can make, I think its perfectly fine to attack their flawed character.

Ok, now you're just puking up left wing dribble. NOBODY in the government wants to ban same-sex relationships. There's a huge difference between banning a relationship, and not wanting to change the legal definition of Marriage. I fully support civil unions to grant the same rights to same-sex couples. I think this is the best compromise for both sides. We don't all want 'abstinance only', I support teaching both abstinance and birth control. Nobody wants to take away a Woman's right to birth control, that's far and away from wanting to take away the so-called 'right' to kill an innocent, defenseless unborn baby- this has no bearing at all on the many other forms of contraception. And what of creationism? Why not present more than one side of a debate?? Isn't that the point of an education? I've never heard any politician support teaching ONLY creationsim.

Disagreement with somebody does not give anybody a right to slime their family and personal life in this way. Period.

I agree with you there. He began by throwing out the red meat to the crowd but then it seemed like he started to morph into that guy I remember from 2000. I thought some of the delegates looked a little confoozled by it... but it obviously wasn't meant for them, it was an appeal to the independents that liked him eight years ago.

Now I'm just hoping he gets elected, because I really miss the Cold War.

The dedication you show to any particular console or company is inversely proportional to the number of times you have gotten laid. If you get laid enough, even if you prefer a certain brand, you just don't give enough of a shit to argue about it on the internet.
