Forums - Gaming - FFVI the best FF ever?

Popularity is not synonymous with quality.

It never has been.

It never will be.

FFVI for me... FIV, FXII and FVII in sequence.

we can ejaculate together to the magnificent game that is FFVII. As we bask in Cloud, Aeris, and Sephiroth's glory we will sit in awe and dream of a day that Square Enix will stop cock teasing us and make the one remake we ever actually ASKED of them.

sigh.......now I am depressed....

@ forevercloud3000 (to stop the page from getting huge cause of quotes)

i understand the whole thing with sephiroth, and the whole thing with the clones, i was fine with that. that part was actually somewhat cool to the movie, it introduced some new villians, so it was cool. thats not what makes me mad about >.>

i do agree with some stuff you're saying though. i understand your anger towards halo, where i don't think its the best shooter ever while it is indeed the most popular.

"Yet even if you do not like the FFVII memorbelia that still does not change the fact that the only reason they were made was because SE was trying to capitalize on it's most popular entry to the franchise. FFVII is the best by this standard. That is why when people ask a question like "Which is the best FF?" it should be answered such as..." FFVII is the most popular, but my particular favorite is_____" blah blah blah."

i agree, very, very much. if someone asked me which is the best, i would definitley make mention of FFVII. but first i would say "well, FFIX was my favorite," then continue to say "but FFVII is the most popular, etc." IMO, FFVII is the best place to start for anyone trying to get into the FF series.

Agreed. I feel that Square killed the series with the addition of cutscenes in 7 onward. Going to CD didn't make the game better, it just made for more FMV and interruptions that hindered the flow of the game.

I completely agree.  FF on the NES was my first, but I think that either FF4 or FF6 was the best ever.

I have no idea why Square made the games have such weak main characters starting with Final Fantasy 7.  It's mindboggling.  And the CG cutscenes are just a complete waste of time and effort -- keep it in the game, let us see something interesting and use a little imagination.  At least with the SNES ones we could pretend the main characters were still masculine.

Final Fantasy is one of the most popular RPGs ever, it also has the most quality put into it. Few come close to it in sheer awsomeness.

PS2 was popular, had quality games, and was a quality product.

Star wars is popular, quality scifi flicks.

America is popular, we are a quality country that established themselves from nothing.

The list goes on, i am sure you can name a few exceptions but do the exceptions truly out weigh the populars?

Most agree that FFVII was the best one, it made the most sales out of any ever, it's story continued becuase fans could not get enough of it.

If that doesn't show which is the best I dont know what does.

Are you serious? If I'm going to reply to you seriously, I need to know that you really think the stuff you're typing.

For now, yeah, FFVI is the best. Once people have poured too much love into it like VII, though, they'll migrate to another FF to worship and wring the life out of that one.

People have been hailing FFVI as the best in the series since it came out over a decade ago. FFVII didn't change that, not with certain crowds.

How would fan reactions make a game better or worse, exactly? Does a rabid fandom somehow lower the real quality of a game? I submit not.

Yeah, it's called an opinion, and they can, you know, change?

An opinion about what? Value apart from perception is a constant assuming that we refer to the same point of reference (i.e. any single gamer as compared to any single other). People liking something, even to the point of being obnoxious, would not subtract from the quality of that piece of media.

No shit, Sherlock. I was talking about how games were the best in a person's eyes. No need to argue over the obvious. Read next time, please, or at least get off your high horse and try to understand what a person is saying instead of assuming they're an idiot who's talking about something else.
