Forums - Gaming - Good previews....Followed by SHIT reviews?

So would you rather they tear games apart that arent finished when they see them? Or look for the good and keep interest in the game so when it comes out, if they have fixed the issues, it will sell well?

They cant bash games that arent finished, get with reality.

Agreed.  I'm sure even Haze and Lair had some form of promise in them

An undesirable consequence of that is that it reduces the pressure on developers to improve their games.

Debating with fanboys, its not
all that dissimilar to banging ones
head against a wall

They feel that they don't wanna prejudge a game, so they give it the benefit of the doubt, and give glowing previews. Thus, previews mean nothing.

...and the reviews themselves mean very little as well.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

I remember something even lamer than a good preview/bad review:

A good review/bad review.

When Manhunt 2 was stuck with the AO rating and effectively canned, 1up.com went ahead and published their review of the game. Lo and behold, they loved it and gave it a 9/10 (before they were doing the letter-grade rating system).

Then, several months later, the game, censored as it was, gets released and 1up.com slams it with a 4/10. Here's the stupid thing: The only changes were heavier filters on executions and one execution removed. The gameplay, graphics, sound, music, acting, control, etc were all exactly the same! They didn't really even touch on the censorship in the 4/10 review! Basically, 1up.com rated the same game twice with two very different scores!

Now, you can no longer find that original 9/10 review on their site. Talk about lame.
