Palin's state reaps the windfall profits McCain decries at the San Francisco Chronicle.

Welcome to the People's Republic of Alaska, where every resident this year will get a $3,200 payout, thanks in no small measure to the efforts of Sarah Palin, the state's Republican governor. That's $22,400 for a family of seven, like Palin's.

That's funny.  I thought our economy was doing poorly.  I got a stimulus package of $300 this year.  Every single person in Alaska gets 10 times that much?

Alaska has been doing that off-and-on for well over ten years (that I know of). It's their money, they can do with it as they please.

As for "People's Republic", it seems as if some people forget that, yes, this is a Republic. That's Alaska's money; if they see fit to give it back to the populace, good for them.

If you don't like it, move to Alaska and reap the benefits of their natural resources. What are you implying they should do with the money, give it to the Federal government? So they can waste Alaskan money on non-Alaskans? It's funny that you call them the "People's Republic of Alaska" and you're the one implying they should practice the Communistic trait of spreading money to those that live in other parts of the country...

Does the kind of behavior really suprise you?

I think it's a well know fact that liberals think about someone else's money 99.9% of the time.

What bothers me most about liberal thinking is the sense of entitlement... What on Earth gives anyone outside Alaska the right to tell Alaska what to do with their money? Those people endure shitty weather, high prices on everything, and a general disconnect from civilization the entire year and now people are bitching that each citizen gets a little extra money as a reward for their difficulties. Money that is Alaskan money to begin with.

Yeah, that makes sense. People who park their asses in California and get great weather, food, culture, etc. all year long deserve a little slice of that Alaskan sacrifice. What a load of shit.

I'm looking forward to her speech.

Her speech will go fine... Even if she writes it, it will be reviewed, re-reviewed, shaken and reviewed again by a ton of campaign people.

Not much chance to screw up there. She has a degree in journalism, so I'm pretty sure she can deliver a pre-written speech ;)

I didn't call it the People's Republic of Alaska. That was a quote from the article. I only added the part at the bottom about my tiny stimulus package 10% the size of theirs. I take it they got stimulus packages as well even though they don't need it. They don't even have a sales tax up there. It's weird that McCain picked a veep that comes from the state that has no idea we're in an economic crisis and won't be able to help at all.

Palin is a horrible choice for McCain and she supports the windfall tax that Obama supports and McCain opposes.

Palin's economic experience is "drill for oil, tax the oil, drill for oil, tax the oil" and that's it. The oil is over 80% of the Alaskan economy and she hasn't had to make a decision about money that doesn't evolve oil in her life. Horrible choice for somebody who could be in the White House possibly making a real decision once or twice.

It's no wonder some crazy Alaskans want to secede so they can keep all the oil to themselves, because the Union is holding them back with its bullshit ideas about "endangered species" and "global warming."

Palin's church thinks Alaska is so rich in natural resources because it is going to be an important place in the coming RAPTURE. So awesome.

I can't wait for her speech either.

Yeah that's gold. It's on YubeTube. The guy says she has experience, and the host asks for a single decision Palin made, and the guy has jack shit. He gets owned hard.

After that the Straight Talk Express is boycotting CNN now? Yeah that's gonna fucking help his image as a straight talking straight shooting maverick. Scared of tough questions like "Name one thing your partner has done."

Wow, that guy got fucking floored.  He looked like a guy with a 3-inch penis trying to explain to a girl why he will be good in the sack.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

1) Palin sued the Bush Administration for not putting Polar Bears on the endangered species list. I dont agree with that, but it shows that her gubernatorial administration does care about enviromental issues.

2)As asinine as her church's beliefs may be it doesnt have any bearing on her candidacy since they are not political rantings. Now Jeremiah Wright's teachings since the are not biblical/spirtual and are radically political then they play a legitimate role in the debate if a candidate subscribes to such teachings.

Palin's speech will knock it outta the park. Bushies handlers are helping her. However, the real prob is when she hits the debate with Biden or yet another controversy hits. There already one swirling with one of her lobbyists being connected to Jack Abramoff.

It no looks good for the VPCILF, Mrs. Palin.

I like her (Palin) so far.

I think it's funny that she's the only one of the four white-house-bound folks who's actually got executive experience.

I think the bitching about her husband's ancient DUI is stupid unless you're comparing it to Obama's cocaine use.

Still, I'm no fan of McCain or Obama.

It's amazing that people deride Palin's experience as Governor, when she has just as much as Obama does. And unlike Obama, she wouldn't be running the country, unlike Obama.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.
