The gap between 360s and PS3s sold to retail worldwide was 8.72 million at the end of 2006 and this decreased to 5.89 million by June 2008. Taking equal timeframes by June 2008 the PS3 sold 14.41 million, the 360 sold 11.6 million by June 2007.

I think it's well possible for the PS3 to reduce the gap by another couple of million before the end of this year.

I think the PS3 may well overtake the 360 worldwide retailer sales early next year (but IMO very likely before the end of 2009).

What? Sold to retail is the most objective measure possible... I thought everyone knows this. It's based on financial reports, absolute correct figures, no estimates.

Your right, I mean, lets just forget what the previous price cut did for the 360... It made their sales numbers fly high like the Hindenberg!

Anyways, I think its highly probable, unless this price drop actually does something for the 360 I dont see the sales gaps changing.

Anything is possible. Perhaps the 360 will widen the gap by then... anything is possible.

Due to MS cutting prices and Sony saying no price cuts this year...I can see the gap increasing to 7mill

The Europe/Others price cut wasn't in the 360's strongest region, so you might be comparing apples to oranges.  Also, most people in NA tend to wait until the Christmas season to make > $100 gift purchases, so a price cut in the near future is more likely to boost sales than a cut further from the holiday season.

That means the 360 would have to sell the most it has sold since the week ending the 6th. This will be the 360's best chance to outsell the PS3 WW this September, and thats only if Sony doesn't cut price itself.

360 isn't selling 120,000 in a week in America, regardless if it drops price or not.

In my opinion closing the gap to 3 million units is possible mostly for the reasons Jandre already formulated.
Ofcourse the 360 price-cut is an important factor and may alter the trend we have seen throughout this year (-> the PS3 selling better than the 360 in every region), but still I'm quite certain it won't save the 360 from being outsold considerably by the PS3 the comming christmas.
I expect the gap to be at 2.5-4million at the end of this year.
