I would hope they press over the part that goes over Alaska, nothing more.

You cant press international waters, so noone has any say over Alaska/Russia or Canada/Greenland. I'm not for sure about the Northwest passage between Canadian territory, but I'm pretty sure that a natural sea way is fair game for inernational ships.
