Forums - Sony - We all know about the price cut and 80 GB. Now what about Europe?

So now we know Sony's new pricing strategy for America. What about Europe, is the price also going to drop? Or will European customers keep getting screwed for some time?

Currently, customers in USA can get a 60 GB PS3 with the Emotion Engine for 500 dollars, while European customers can get it without the Emotion Engine for 600 euros. As you probably know, that means 816 dollars, or a 316 dollars difference.

Yes, I know that part of that difference is taxes and higher distribution costs, but I also know that Sony is screwing European customers. Will this go on, or will they drop the European price too? Are they happy with sales in Europe?

no, they will not drop the european price yet, simply because it's only ~4 months out here yet.

Europe always gets screwed by everybody. I mean the Wii is like £180, which is $360, so we pay an extra $110 on that. Trust me, every non-European company charges us well over the odds.

It's the same old story: we (european) are used by every company in the world to make price cuts possible on other markets...the sad thing is that we end up payin' much more than US customers even if in practice the average wage in Europe is much lower than in US and this happens for almost every good you can think of: cars, CDs, DVDs, consumer electronic, PCs, consoles, games, fuel ..i think that only pizza costs less here in Italy than in US (but if it's not, please don't say it! )

Its almost funny how europe is one of the biggest supporters of the PS3 eventhough we get F´d in the A most by Sony, maybe if Sony started screwing the U.S. they would start to love it.

Even with European products we get screwed. I just looked up VW US, and VW UK, we pay from £11,000 for a Beetle, but the US pays from $16,000, so we pay a frickin $8,000 extra! I mean WTF?! Although I'm not sure how accurate that is, as on VW US, the only 2 options are New Beetle and 2.5l Beetle, but VW UK, has 1.4l Luna, 1.6l Luna, 1.9l TDI, 2.0l and 1.8l Turbo. Perhaps the US just doesn't like having a range of options? Although I understand why there's no diesel option, as nobody buys Diesel in the US, even though half of Audi cars made (total) are diesel!

We support Sony and are punished cos of this, right? Always like this. When you support and demand a console, they do not cut the price. PS3 is tronger in Europe relative to America, and sony fans are punished cos of this.

you've already answerd to your question...selling 20K PS3 per week at 816$ is just like selling almost 30k consoles per week in the US...and i bet Sony would be quite happy if they could sell 30k consoles per week in the US in this time of the year.

So you think they're happy with European sales, even considering they're lower than the 360's?
