Forums - Gaming - What system was pushed the farthest graphically? (Lots of pics)

It's not quite fair since Rogue Leader was such a great game (graphically for sure anyway)...games on the Wii still don't beat a lot about RS2.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

personally I think its the Game Boy Color, they got a 32-bit looking game on a 8-bit handheld. damn impressive.

Kirby's Adventure is not the pinnacle of NES graphical development--especially from those screenshots (other parts of the game looked vastly better). Try Batman: Return of Joker on for size. Large sprites, animated backgrounds.

Also, on the N64, there was Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine and Perfect Dark, both of which pushed the system to it's graphical extremes over Majora's Mask (which is still gorgeous in it's own right).

However, seeing those shots of RE4 sadden me for the half-assed way in which so many developers crap out graphics for the Wii. Even RE4 wasn't pushing the GameCube system to it's extremes.

I almost put Perfect Dark for the 64, but Majora's Mask IMO looks better. But its pretty close.

Rare fared better pushing the N64 than Nintendo did.  From what I've read, the Indiana Jones game is the one that taxed the system the most, going as far as using tricks like constantly streaming from the cartridge while still using the Expansion Pak to eek out even better graphics.  Turok 2 and I think Turok 3 also pushed the system pretty well.  Many parts of Turok 2 look better than Zelda: MM.

MGS isn't the best-looking PS1 game. Try, say, Fear Effect 2:

Or Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver:

Neither of those screenshots really do either game justice, but it's hard to find screenies of PS1 games.

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."
