The payout by MS was not extra, its put into another book of expenses (IE: Fixing the RROD problem and increasing the 3 year warranty). If you want to talk about extra or additionals, it would be for the newer models with the falcon chip in it. Sony spent what they had to spend and I am not arguing with it, but they've had to cut the production costs by half because the market was not responding to their system the way they should. In price cut and MGS coming out increased sales by 180%. Microsoft made mistakes and they fixed the majority of them. If you stay on the past too much you'll give yourself a heart attack. In 2006 there was a 30% RROD rate, in 2007 it dropped down to 16%, now its far less than ever. Based on the Idea and goals MS was focused on they DESERVE to sell more than Sony, because obviously they were thinking about the gaming more. Sony said it themselves at E3 that they were now focused on the gaming. This is because of the stabilization of Blu Ray, which was Sony's initial goal. |
So focusing on giving consumers a new standard storage medium was a bad thing? Well then, I guess we'd still be seeing wars between BR and HDDVD right now wouldnt we? If they, M$, were really focused on gaming, they wouldn't have rushed the 360 to the market to try and beat out the PS3, then the RROD wouldn't exist, and the bad image would never be there. And then on top of that, we could really see their strategy when going directly head to head, launch to launch with the PS3. If this hypothetical were realized in 2006, and the 360 got all those "big games" THEN I would say it deserves to sell more.
Not right now though....they only focused on getting PS3 exclusives (come on now.....Assassin's Creed was a COMPLETELY new IP, and they went after that...not to mention the likes of DMC4, GTA4, and now FFXIII) and that's all. And now they're planning on copying Nintendo with this whole Newton thing
