Forums - Microsoft - Do you think the 360 'deserved' to be selling much better?

Aside from the RROD issue that plagued the system´s early life, it´s easy to see how much effort and emphasis MS has been putting on getting many big games for the 360.

Helping fund Mistwalker, securing a lot of JRPGs for the Japanese public, getting many big 3rd party titles that previously were PS exclusive, trying to shake off the image of the Xbox as a "shooter box".

All in all, the scenario painted at the beginning was of MS really putting a lot of work on making the 360 look like the PS2 in terms of games, while Sony was very arrogant at the beginning of this gen and expected all good things handed to them on a silver platter.

With all that said, and taking into account all the effort on MS´ part, do you think the 360 deserved to be selling far better in Europe and Japan?...even in its stronghold, the U.S, the PS3 has been outselling it on a regular basis.

It kinda feels as if the guy who´s been working very hard isn´t really being recognized.

I think the biggest problem for MS and the Xbox brand wasn´t the RROD, it´s always been a 'global celing' that´s been really hard for them to crack....they lack that worldwide appeal Nintendo and Sony have enjoyed.

While the 360 is expected to surpass the original Xbox and end this generation in the 40 million range, do you think they deserved much higher numbers given all the effort on delivering all these games?

given the effort yes, however had microsoft not rushed the xbox 360 the initial faults could have been erased. The rrod is a big factor in europe/japan people there are less tolerate with the rrod, in conclusion great games average console.

Yes, they worked very hard, and personally I love my Xbox 360, but they made a big mistake by releasing early. They were trying to sell as many units as they could before their competitors came out, but that didn't work so well, with RROD and the fact that people call the PS3 future-proof.

Enjoy

Yes and no.

Yes, I think for the positives that the system offers (games), It should of sold more.

However, I can't endorse the lackluster price drops the X360 has had. Microsoft could of been far more aggressive in the price drop wars, and sold millions more system had they done so. As much as games are the #1 reason for a good console, price is also a concern.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Not really. I do think brand loyalty (toward Sony)/brand antipathy (against MS) works against them, but between hardware unreliability, sharing too many "exclusives" with the PC, and subscription-based online, I think they're doing about as well as they can expect. They'll have to do better and get much more aggressive if they want to crack the mainstream and shed a lot of their stigmas.

M$ has treated me very well by bringing some putting some great games on the console. It looks like they are going to continue the trend, so I will be happy for the rest of this gen. I cannot wait for the Halo related event M$ is gonna throw.

I think the 360 deserves much better sales than the xbox, at least double, cause last generation I had a ps2 with no interest in the xbox.

Apart from the rrod, the 360 improved a great amount....

NO this is what they get for copying the ps2's strategy..

i'm not sure deserved is the correct word, but yes microsoft deserve every success they've had with the 360 , they put the work in and got the result no dought about that.

They've also made the market more competetive , we'd definetley not have a £300 PS3 had it not been for the 360. The Wii might even cost more too.

I think that RRoD is not a problem anymore, the Falcon did his job,and now the new Jasper will take care of any hardware problem.

The biggest problem the 360 has is sharing his exclusive with the PC. That way,any ps3 fan can say that they played 360 games without the NEED for a 360,while Sony has never let go of any title, even if it was bad (Haze anyone?) and kept his exclusives list growing.

Live costs 40$(newegg) for 13 months so it`s 3$ per month,not a big deal.
The games are. I love my 360 btw.
