Forums - Gaming - Street Fighter4 my semi-review

So today I went to San Jose State's arcade to try out the new Street Fighter. I already wasn't expecting much and ended up watching the game(it was 75 cents!).  Although I can't have a truly valid opinion because I didn't play just watching it didn't seem fun.

The game looked like it had gone back to Street Fighter 2, I watched for a good half hour. All the strategies being used were basic (throw projectiles until they jump at you than anti-air). I didn't see much poking, some strategic throwing and that's about it.

So far my opinion of the game isn't very high, the graphics are nice but it seems the gameplay has taken a step back. Anyone who's played it care to voice their opinions? Perhaps there are things in the game that I'm not aware about.

The aim of SF IV is to return to the roots of the serie ( read SF II )

Looks like they accomplished their aims then...

I've played it a few times.

It's OK.

They have it in an arcade that is 10 mins walk away from where I live.

I've only been to play it one time.

That pretty much summarizes how I feel about the game.

Roll on KoF XII.

I'd be happy with Super Street Fighter II with updated graphics. It'd be nice to be blown away, but I think SF IV will fit the bill.

Honestly, that's all I really want out of SFIV. There's already enough tough as nails complex fighters out there. Gimme something I can pick up and play with some buddies with nice new visuals and music and I'm pretty happy. I'd be even more happy with a Marvel Vs Capcom 3, though....

My Top 5:

Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger

My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3 and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.

That seems to be the mantra of this era: cutting edge graphics and 1990s game play.

With Wii is less susceptible to this (motion control, obviously) but definitely not immune, either.

I can't wait to see what the next generation brings. With a little luck it'll be another creative spurt like the late 90s. I don't see graphics being a factor.
