waiting until the gen is half way over? I could see that being the case. New SKUs, rising costs, longer dev times, and better games after a few years--all these are some points for this topic.
I personally will wait next time around.

please don't hate me because i'm trendy everyone who looks like me is my friend
and you have a good point, but i don't think companies would do that. not appealing
I always wait a year or two to buy a console; better hardware, more games and lower price! A tripple win every time and I have never missed not having them the first two years or so (most consoles are far from worth it the first two years imo).
everybody knew those were going to be the problems this generation.
still many companies managed to do good even with the longer development.
i expect to next gen to be overcome already and HD gets easier to do with better dev tools.
but even so, c++/opengl vs .net/directx, no wonder why dev find it easier to work with 360
