Forums - Sony - New Version Of PlayStation 3 To Go On Sale In August

I wonder about the validity of this but I'll go on the assumption it is true.

1) Sony may be trying to pull a Nintendo with an add-in game (much like Wii Sports)...They are trying to increase the value. IMO it might be a day late and a dollar too short. (Is that how the phrase goes?)

2) It might also make their sales to remain stagnate. As we have seen with the 4 gig iphone, the 360 Core, and the PS3 20-gig: consumers want to get the top tier system.

3) This will make consumers wait till the newest version drops in price.

But hey what do I know?

Do we know how the 360 Elite is doing compared to the Premium? That will probably be the more likely with 60 gig vs 80 gig.

I'm not quite sure why you think his post is trolling. It's his opinion, and one I'm inclined to sort of agree with.

They're introducing another SKU. There were a lot of people who thought this was a bad idea when Microsoft said they'd make an Elite version. Is it suddenly a good idea?

Not only that, but they've put themselves back in the 499 and 599 price range that they launched with. Sure, there's more bang for the buck, but ... it's ... still ... 599USD!

 i disagree with you about these two skus. There isnt a huge difference this time between the 60 and 80 like the 20 and 60 was. The only difference is a game is included and its 20GB more. Not 40GB more, wifi, and card readers.

 Its just an option for people who want motorstorm and more space. Otherwise the 60GB will work perfectly.

yea the 60 gig will work perfectly.. this is a good move by sony... all they have to do now is debut their video on demand service and i'll be happy... in my opinion this is how MS should have done it. this is what i like about sony

If true, this is ridiculous!

Why would ANYONE pay an extra $100 for 20Gig space, and a game that has been out for months (and is no doubt available for $25 in some places)??

So this is Sony's price cut - throw in a game, and 20Gig of space - and sell it at the same price.

(actually makes a lot more sense to me - they would be less likely to want to reduce the revenue they get per sale, rather than same revenue and give away a few dollars more value).

LOL...

60gb discontinued confirmed?

This only makes sense if they are trying to clear the channel of 60gb systems, and then offer the 80gb without a pack-in game for $499 later on down the line.

If anything, they should've just kept their mouth shut about the 80gb.
