Immaterial display allows viewers to handle 3D images in air

Read the article, it's not as exciting as it sounds.  But then it settles in, and you realize that it is exciting because of the potential.

is this at least 3D now versus 2.5D?

It depends, the image can be made to appear the same from any angle (sooner) and they, with better processing power, should be able to make each projector display the appropriate angle (later). From what I've read before.

so basically real holo displays will be another 20 years >.

Before we die of old age. This uses fog (though very little) so I don't know if we'd consider it Star Wars-esque.

It's funny, but I think the image that appears the same from every angle is more useful. Imagine a TV in the middle of a room.

Though a game where every one sits around a battle field or whatever would be cooler. Or where each player see their own screen (like split screen).

its also weak to noise yet.

alot of noise may disrupt the signals.

cain't wait to say "Help me Obi-wan Kenobi, you're my only hope."
