Tekken 6 to be delayed to 2009?

by Nicholas Gasse - 2008/08/28 2:18pm

It looks like fighting fans may have to wait just a bit longer for Tekken 6 to hit the PS3. Earlier today, the Tekken 6:Bloodline Rebellion upgrade was announced for the arcade version of Tekken 6. Like Dark Resurrection, Bloodline Rebellion should add new stages, sound tracks, costumes, characters, and bug fixes to the existing version of Tekken 6. Bloodline Rebellion will hit arcades in December of this year.

Originally slated for a 2008 release, the console version of Namco Bandai's fighter was sidelined in order to get its other fighting franchise, Soul Calibur IV, out on the market. The console version of Tekken 6 will be most likely be delayed to incorporate these new updates, possibly even into 2009.

Nintendo's announcement policy is starting to make more sense now.

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Fullfilled Prophecies

Is that possibly delayed into 2009, or definetly delayed? It seems really stupid to miss the holiday season for their biggest fighting game, just to get Soul Calibur out in August...

If Namco Bandai needs more time to incorporate new updates that improves the game I am all for a delay as long as it benefits the game.

Damn, i expected some boost in Japan by Tekken 6.
Though, if they release game in the begining of January, it would be able still to create a good momentum. =)

360 IS OPERATIONAL AFTER 37 DAYS!

What the hell? Namco said it would hit the ps3 less than a year after it hit the arcades, and it hit the arcades in Japan in November of last year.

The arcade version of Tekken 6 is actually using ps3 hardware (Cell + RSX), so the game should've been extremely easy to port, as they'd only have to incorporate the XMB and online features, both of which they already have experience with through Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection.

The only reason it's taking this long is if they are indeed adding these updates, which is really a good and a bad thing. Sure, we'll be getting a much better game (compare Dark Resurrection to the original Tekken 5), but the delay isn't cool at all.
