Forums - Gaming - Square Enix Plans To Take Over Tecmo

I wonder if everyone has forgotten that Tomonobu Itagaki has left Tecmo. I wonder if everyone has forgotten what he said about the company. A little something about the company having a hostile environment, and that they were not paying bonuses that they promised. I am not so worried about Tecmo as I am worried for Square. They could end up snatching up a powder keg likely to explode.

I honestly cannot see how this could or would be a positive step for Square. There are many developers with fewer issues that would be better acquisitions.

They could do worse. *cough Sega cough*

I doubt they give a crap about Tecmo themselves. Square is after the franchise rights. Ninja Gaiden, Rygar, Tecmo Bowl, Dead or Alive, Fatal Frame, Deathtrap Dungeon, etc. Those are established franchises that Square doesn't need to put in the effort to branch out past RPGs with.

I just hope S-E won't be making the new NG, DoA, and FF games and let Tecmo make 'em

Well this is off the wall.

I can't really imagine too much what's going to happen with Tecmo's franchises being backed by SE. Except you know, some FF characters being dropped into DoA.

Ouch. Tecmo is an incredible developer. SquareEnix... not so much. It would be a same if Ubisoft took over Capcom. No one would be happy if that happened.

I think I just shat myself laughing.

Tecmo only has three mildly successful franchises to it. Ninja Gaiden, Dead or Alive, and Fatal Frame. Now that Itagaki as well as many Team Ninja members have permanantly cut ties with Tecmo, the company has lost much of what little quality it ever had.

Compared to Square Enix with hugely successful franchises such as Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Kingdom Hearts, Star Ocean, Chrono, Mana, and Valkyrie Profile, Tecmo is nothing.

Please don't let this happen! They would cancel Fatal Frame 4 in the US and probably cancel Rygar as well.

I'm praying for the takeover not to happen.

Takeover's take quite a whille - Fatal Frame will already be localised for the US before any changes are made

They let Taito make Space Invaders and Arkanoid for DS and those turned out fine. I wouldn't worry too much. Team Ninja is shit now anyways. The talent is gone. Fatal Frame is basically in the hands of Grasshopper now. I'm suprised it wasn't more noticeable before how badly in shambles Tecmo was.

Don't include Chrono because it hasn't has a new game since Cross or Mana because of quality of the games in the series(as well as the sales) dropped.

FF, KH, and DQ go to the hugely successful franchise pile while SO and VP go to the mildly successful franchise pile

Meh. S-E sucks Id rather play NG or DoA over any of their shit so Id rather they not buy it at the same time Itagaki left so.......Tecmo might not be that awesome anymore.
