The Price cut happens on the 7th, the first day of the new sales week. So we won't know until between 4-6 days after that weeks close what the numbers for the price cut will be.

I would pick that the week of the price cut is probably the most important specific week of the whole year. That one week sets the tone for the next 12 months in the U.S. in terms of the sales potential of the Xbox 360.

Not by msoft, but by basically everyone else it has, yes. Walmart, Best Buy, and many other big retailers have listed it in advertisements and other retail placements

I disagree. The first week of sales will always be high. The true question will be if a cheaper 360 can sustain the massive increase of sales and we won't know that until October.

Yeah, it's not all about the first week, it's whether it sustains higher sales or not.

Yes, I would agree that we should see some fairly significant hike in 360 sales post the US price cuts. I wonder if there will be any further price reductions world wide (I think there already has been some, but don't know to what extent).

I don't think that outside of message boards that this is that big of an issue though. Sales maybe slow but they do have sales. Additionally, price cuts DO increase demand; just look at the PS3 for recent historical proof.

I'm also fairly interested in a couple of other things that may drive sales.... 1) What is the TBA on Saturday for the Microsoft booth at PAX? 2) What/when is Bungies reveal on their new game? Here's an extra one...is there a Halo branded reveal coming? Halo Wars, Peter Jackson's product... OH and one more! HAHA, what about Darwin? Is that going to be an MS peripheral?

You should also wait for the week just after.

The first bump + the drop will give you a idea of the price cut effect.

Also, MS can still release another special sku or bundle ... who knows ?

I think waiting for a month's worth of sales would provide a better indicator.

Even though that month's worth of sales should start rolling into Fall sales when all consoles will start picking up regardless of catalysts, a comparison of YoY sales with 2007 should show what type of effect the price drop should have over the holidays.

First week should be huge unless there is a supply shortage that same week due to no change in inventory levels in preparation. Meaning, if 360s start selling out that first week, subsequent shipments will increase.

If not, and supply channels are stuffed beforehand in preparation, it would still take 2-3 weeks for the initial bump to subside.
