The download time is the problem.

Until thats sorted disc will be the option imo.

One of the main advantages for digital downloads is it'd seem to prevent piracy. but surely so far the PS3 has shown that you can fully stop piracy even with using blu-ray so far.
Also I could be wrong but I believe you get get piracy versions of wii digital downloads.

People are still bringing up VOD? Seriously? Its been available since the late 90s, I still fail to see it taking off, despite Blu-Ray outpacing DVD's initial adoption rate.

Remember kids, if you can talk out your ass REALLY well, you can too get paid to make crap up.

I own all three current consoles and a great gaming rig, now thats out of the way.

This space Reserved for the Nuggets of Wisdom dropped by Bladeforce:

"Why post something like this when all it will get is PS3 owners blinded to reality replying? BOTH THE PS3 AND BLUE-RAY WILL NOT LAST 3 YEARS! TECHNOLOGY CHANGED TOO FAST!"

"is it Wii FIt that has sold as many as PS3's sold? Thats a LOL Look at the total sales of software is it just me that sees Nintendo titles hitting 10m+ and you say they arent making a difference? Another LOL!"

"Hell, with all the negative hype Sony spin, people just aren't interested cost is too high and to get the true HD experience (1080p, 7.1 surround) you will need a $1000+ system. THAT IS GOING TO DO IT IN A RECESSION! PS4 will not happen"

wow, they keep bangin on about this digital distribution....
7 years till it takes over for bluray or dvd?
lol. internet, tv and radio have been around for more than enough time now and yet people still buy books.
digital distribution will at maximum take away 30% of all sales, in the next 20 years.

I would not fully agree with you.

Take a look at the music industry in recent years.

i think you are missing the forest through the trees.

the real reason music fell off is from the ipod EDIT(digital media storage/playback devices), which made pirating almost necessary.

honestly, do you really think people fill 20GB which purchased music? The digital distribution will not be so easily pirated, and therefore will lack the tidal wave of interest that people think it will have.

It is the same concept with game systems, where it is actually a better selling point to have possible piracy. Sure you won't sell as many games at first, but after so many people buy the console and are buffing up sales by 5-15% devs shit the bed and put a lot more focus onto that platform.

wonder why the ds sells so many consoles all the time without falter? it is perhaps the easiest console to pirate games for.

this is what kills me about analysts. they never really think things through.

i think we should all analyse stuff

But how long will it take for digital distro to be a large enough force in the space that it blunts the advantage of a disc player, and how long will the growth of downloadable games keep accelerating?

"Perhaps maybe five years? Maybe seven years? I think the challenge with digital distribution is more because of piped-to-the-home bandwidth than the technology within the systems," says Olin.

So in 5-7 years Blue Ray won't help drive PS3 sales anymore...

Seeing how by then PS4 and XSbox720 will be out I fail to see what point he is exactly trying to drive.......

 Exactly what I was thinking...LOL

Same Here.

yeah. me too. And that's assuming that DD will be the standard in 7 years, which it won't.

Not trying to be a fanboy. Of course, it's hard when you own the best console eve... dang it
