SSBB and MK Wii are core titles. Why do you see many core gamers on this site raving about them and playing online and such? Definitely not casual
==> they are hardcore AND casual. They are offline multiplayer that seduce both crowd.

You're making it easier everytime you post.
I'm off to go play in the "Everybody Votes" channel. It's so hardcore! Online integration!! Online community!!!! Then I may feel like playing a casual game, you know something offline, maybe MGS2 or FFX.
@Kyros
I never said they have something left for '08 other than AC. I was pointing out that their "empty" '09 lineup just hasn't been revealed and since half the titles you listed are '09 for the PS3 it's not fair to compare it to the Wii's '09 lineup that you don't even know yet.
If I read correctly, Sony fans think core games involve guns and blood, therefore SMG, SSBB, MKWii are casual.
The world is about to end.

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.
| Kyros said: t's harder to single out Nintendo for overlooking its "core audience" With the difference that Sony will bring out Resistance 2, Motorstorm 2, Killzone 2 (wow lots of 2s) soon, Gran Turismo 5, God of War 3, Uncharted 2 later. While the most "core" games Nintendo has announced is Animal Crossing. Which is as casual and not core as it gets. I am not sure if Sony will be successful by trying to recapture some of the casual audience but as long as I get a new Team Ico game, God of War3 and GT5 they can make all the virtual pets and party games they want. |
This is the truth.
They are obviously focusing on both as they always has.

Lol, I m pretty sure you all I m right but you keep trying to make me look stupid. - Second life is not casual / online play is not casual : put this in your head. - Sony has casual title since PS2 was a hardcore/casual console. OK. But go check the most expected game of the PS3 : no singstar, no eyepet, no eyetoy. You can turn it how you want : |
Italicized: People play computer games online, including some of those Instant Messenger games. Are all the people who play those hardcore aswell?
Bold: I thought LBP was supposed to be the 'bridge-title' resulting in massive sales and drawing in the 'casual crowd'?

So are you saying the tons of core gamers that bought those games would be interested in a virtual pet...? |
==> I would say the tons of casual gamers that bought (and buy) the Wii, will be interested by a virtual pet.
The same people that bought Nintendogs on DS ...

"Then why did you say "just look at Zelda/SMG/Metroid sales" then? If they're both then why group them with the core games? Core games are usually only for core gamers while Zelda/SMG/Metroid aren't (although they are more targeted towards core. Zelda...30+ hour game with tons of exploration, puzzles, etc. Not something a casual can do fine. SMG has a good deal of pretty tough levels. Metroid...self explanitory.)"
==> Because :
Zelda/SMG/Metroid are hardcore ! Not like SSBB or MK that are mixed.
And Zelda/SMG/Metroid sales are not so stellar. MP is low. Zelda was a launch title (?). SMG was released on Xmas.
Just look at SSBB/MK/Wiifit that, in less time, outside the Xmas period, were able to perform about the same sales or even better depending which game you compare.
Same for the pretty poor Mario Party 8.
I dont even mention Wii sports ...
that is what I meant by "just look at Zelda/SMG/Metroid sales"

"libellule, read my post again and try to answer. I wasn't talking about some raved games...you were implying that because some games on the Wii are casual must mean the rest of the Wii is casual and the core games don't exist. I argued that since the PS3 and 360 have Disney movie titles and games like Singstar and Buzz while ignoring the core games (same thing you did for the Wii) that must mean the PS3 and 360 are casual systems. Clearly both statements about the Wii and the HD consoles are WRONG.
What do you say about that."
==> that is true.
But looking more carefull, you can see 1 difference between the Wii and the PS3 :
MAIN Ninty support is on casual, while the MAIN Sony support is on hardcore :
- The best system seller of the console are the casual games like Wiisport or Wii Fit.
I dont think Singstar was a very good system seller for the PS3.
Indeed, most PS3 owners dont care about this game.
- All the Wii ads are targetting towards casuals even when it is about a hardcore game like MP (hum pretty blond it was).
Check the PS3 ads, and you will see casuals are not really targetted sincce the ads is all about the game itself and not the people that play the game.
- MAIN promoted games during conference (E3) are casuals for Ninty while they are hardcore for Sony (Wiifit/Wii music versus god of war3 + MAG). At the GC, when Sony shows the Eyepet, it is only a little curiosity, it is not their main guns (that were KZ2/Motorstorm2/LBP/Resistance2)

==> no, you can't really compare these little free online games to the classic online games (sc/war3/cs/wow etc ...)
|
==> On the paper maybe. But in the reality ...
It may interest some casual, but I m guessing it is just too complex and the hardware is just too expensive.
That doesn't mean a true solid community may not support the game during years ...

I'll take EyePet over a generic shooter.

Presumably they funded Singstar and Buzz instead of a core title, what the big deal?
