i'd be less critical of it if it was more comprehensive (ie: a flat fee for ongoing access to a large library of games) but from what i've seen recent virtual console releases have been pretty weak. |
The "select titles only" thing is a marketing decision. Yeah, it sucks, but I can see why Nintendo did it.
I don't see why buying a classic or GC controller is such a problem, seeing as you'd need a total of 7 or 8 different consoles and controllers just to run everything that the VC can.
The "paying for titles you've already paid for" complaint is anecdotal. Want to know how many games I own on both the VC and in cartridge/disc form? Zero. Nada. Zilch. I'd imagine most people are in the same situation.
As for the advantages: No need to own multiple consoles, no need to own or switch bulky cartridges, no need to work with dated, failure-prone hardware, all emulators are stable and authentic, all games playable with a single controller type (once you buy that classic or GC controller you're set for life), improved color detail thanks to component cables, improved resolution on N64 games, most VC games are cheaper than buying the actual cartridge/disc.
"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."
