Forums - General - Louisiana to get hit by a hurricane again?

I for one will show no sympathy if New Orleans crumbles again. People need to get a clue and not live in in giant ditches waiting for it to fill with water. I'm completely empathetic to those who lost a lot and went through a lot during Katrina, but come on people, wake up.

Storms like Katrina hit New Orleans (and every other major city) once every 50 or so years.  It's better getting hit by a hurricane that you can anticipate a week before hand rather than suffering through snowstorms, forest fires, sudden earthquakes, etc.

And besides, New Orleans just kicks ass, so storms or not more of us would never leave.

makingmusic- well I"m glad you not worried about it because this is not boding well in my mind. I mean I know your coming to hold out here in Baton Rouge but it's not looking good for us here. I just hope Source is wrong and that we aren't lying in ruin after all this. I mean this is worse than Katrina so far. Reminiscent of Andrew right now.

I've changed my mind. I'm now worried. >_>

Haha well that seems more human at the moment haha. This is just not going to end up pretty.  I just hope I don't get too much property damage.  Got enough to deal with with the inevitable long term power outages.

Indeed.  We only lost a fence and a fridge last time. I hope the same happens again.

So you, me, and outlaw are gonna hang out in BR, right?  :P

Yea from the looks of it that's what's going down.  Haha anticipation for hurricanes always feels like anticipation of invasion ya know.  I mean technically it is an invasion but of water and wind instead of men with guns.

But yea hopefully we 3 will make it through it... but hard for me to think positive about this one.  But selfishly of me all I can think about is losing power and access to internet haha.

I HATE RAY NAGIN! HE'S A TOTAL FUCKING IDIOT!!!!!!

He's trying to save his ass this time, and screwing over a BUNCH of people. He just made an announcement claiming that the storm is already stronger than Katrina ever was, that it's the storm of the century, blah blah blah and declared an emergency evacuation for the entire city tomorrow. My sister works at a nursing home in the city, and they're supposed to be evacuating the residents tomorrow! How the hell are they all supposed to get out with the entire city trying to get out simultaneously!?! The storm hasn't even entered the gulf yet! All those trying to be pre-emptive about this just got royally screwed by a shitty mayor who's scared he'll mess everything up again by waiting too long! The storm hasn't even entered the gulf yet! It's still over Cuba!

And the storm isn't even as strong as Katrina was at it's worst point yet. Nagin claimed that the footprint of Katrina was only 400 miles across, while Gustav is over 900. This is false. Merely the breadth of Gustav's clouds measures 900 miles, while the actual center of the storm is only 200 miles across. Katrina had well over a thousand mile footprint if you take every damn cloud into account, and it covered more than the entire gulf. In actuality, Katrina was twice the width of Gustav even when it made landfall (400 vs 200, and it made landfall two levels below what it was at it's highest point).

Well after Katrina politicians know they can further their career by coming out as the person who led them through the catastrophe. That's why they are doing all this. Yea I'm getting tired of the comparisons as well but I feel that this storm... at least from a Baton Rouge perspective... will be worse than Katrina. Here in BR we got the west side of Katrina so we didn't get it too bad. This time we are getting the east side which doesn't bode well for us.

And for reference here's hurricane Katrina:

And then Gustav:

Who can fault mother nature for wanting to smooth out one of the jagged edges on the US map? I say people should just turn the French Quarter into it's own little island tourist attraction surrounded by a very large swimming pool. The Mississippi wants it's delta back.

I give this thread a 9.5.

Thank god for the disable signatures option.
